KBS HI-REV 2.0 Wedge Shaft
The KBS HI-REV 2.0 wedge shaft is designed to increase the effective loft of your wedge to give you more launch and spin. Players looking to hit higher, softer shots onto greens with more stop will be the ideal candidate for the HI-REV 2.0.
How Does it Feel?
If you’re familiar with more modern “spinny” wedge shafts, then you know the feeling of the KBS HI-REV 2.0 wedge shaft. With a softer tip section and smooth bend profile, the HI-REV 2.0 feels very active on the ball. Frankly, the design of the KBS HI-REV 2.0 is right in KBS’s wheelhouse. The active/spinny design lends itself to a nice smooth feeling that lets you really feel the action of your shot. Every shot is very responsive in your hands as well. While the previously reviewed KBS 610 wedge shaft had a firmer, piercing wedge feel, the HI-REV 2.0 has more of the “wedge maestro” big air, big spin feel. So if you’re looking for a very active (yet controlled) smooth wedge feel, then the HI-REV 2.0 is about as good as it gets.
On-Course Performance
In my KBS 610 review, I mentioned there was a different KBS wedge shaft that was perfect for around the greens. That shaft is the KBS HI-REV 2.0. Dare I say the KBS HI-REV 2.0 makes the short chips and pitches seem easy? It seemed all I had to do was throw the club at the ball to get a soft little pop in the air with good spin. If I wanted more bite, I just had to get a little more aggressive with my swing. Lower pitches are doable, but the HI-REV 2.0’s bread and butter is the higher drop and stop shot. Big flop shots? You better believe it…
Now, let’s give the KBS HI-REV 2.0 its due credit. While the shaft is softer, the HI-REV 2.0 is plenty playable for full swings. Though the launch angle and spin will be higher, you can still find adequate distance in full shots. However, I will say, I found hitting penetrating shots more difficult but doable. For that player that needs their full wedge shot to come into the green softer, the HI-REV 2.0 is perfect. A big spin player will make this shaft bite like crazy.
Maybe more of a footnote, but an important one – the HI-REV 2.0 was great from the bunker. I won’t claim to be a bunker wizard, but the HI-REV 2.0 sure made me feel like one. The more active tip section was very helpful in doing a lot of the work for me through the sand and popped the ball out nice an easy. Don’t get me wrong, the basics of playing in the sand are still up to you. The HI-REV 2.0 just gives you some added assistance.
Final Thoughts
Smooth, active feel with lots of spin and easy pop and stop is the perfect way to describe the KBS HI-REV 2.0. Obviously how you implement this shaft in your wedge game comes down to fit and your style of play, but the HI-REV 2.0 certainly delivers on its promises. For me personally, the HI-REV 2.0 has found a comfortable place in my 60º for the foreseeable future. I will even go so far as to say it has given me a new-found confidence around the green.
