Meet the Reinland Family 25

Ladies & Gentlemen, Meet the Reinland Family

Meet the Reinland Family

In the Southeast corner of Washington state lives the Reinland family.  The two sons of Jeff and Marti Reinland, Max and Drew, grew up playing junior golf all over the Pacific Northwest building a deep passion for the game which took deep roots in their souls.  Max and Drew went on to earn college scholarships to play golf at Washington State University and Lewis-Clark State College respectively which led to their professional careers in the golf industry.

Fast forward a few years and the Reinland boys’ golf careers have truly become a family affair.  Also working alongside their loving mother, Marti, the Reinland family business currently consists of two brands – Muni Kids and Reinland Golf Co.  We’ll introduce you to both brands more in-depth later, but this post will introduce you to the people and the two businesses bearing their names in the golf industry.

The People

Max Reinland

Maxton Reinland – the founder of Muni Kids and Reinland Golf Co.  Max’s story started as a kid growing up living at his local muni, the Vets in Walla Walla, Washington.  It was here that he fell in love with the game, and maybe most importantly, “Muni Golf Culture.”  Following his college golf career, Max returned to the Vets as a golf pro and also tried his hand as a touring professional.  As the touring dreams were coming to an end, so was the Vets golf course.  This is when Max started kicking around his ideas to bring products he liked to the golf industry that were different from everyone else.

Max also spent four years coaching college golf – two years at Walla Walla Community College, and two years as an assistant to his brother, Drew, at Lewis-Clark State College.

Marti Reinland

Marti Reinland – the matriarch of the Reinland family, also known as “The Stitchuation,” Stitch, or Mama Stitch.  Though Marti doesn’t golf herself, she loves the game and was the boys’ biggest fan in their youth.  Carting them around course to course, tournament to tournament, she grew an equally deep passion for the game that she was able to experience with her family.  While involved in both businesses, Stitch primarily focuses on Reinland Golf Co making and shipping the products.  Most importantly, Marti is a fun spirit and shows it.

My first introduction to Marti was a photo Max sent me of her working at the Reinland Golf Co booth at the Custer’s Christmas Arts & Crafts Show with a blue streak in her hair, and I’ve only ever seen her wearing cool sneakers in photos.  I love it.  From an outside perspective, Marti’s enthusiasm for working day-to-day on a passion project with her own sons is palpable.  By trade, Marti is an accountant which probably pays off in helping keep her two sons in line! She also may or may not have been an Aerobics instructor in the 90s.  Tip of the cap, Marti has been happily married to Mr. Reinland (biggest Muni Kids and Reinland Golf Co supporter out there) for over 30 years!

Meet the Reinland Family Drew

Drew Reinland

Drew’s been involved with the family business since the beginning, but only recently came on “full time” as a part owner.  In addition to running both of the Reinland businesses with Max, Drew is also the Director of Instruction at Dave’s Valley Golf Center located in Clarkston, Washington where he gives over 1,000+ lessons a year.  Drew resides in the Clarkston area after playing golf for Lewis-Clark State College and then coaching there for three years.

Drew is still quite the stick and enjoys helping others improve their golf game.  Fun fact about Drew: he owns over 50 pairs of sweatpants and always wears two chains around his neck.

The Start

The Reinland family golf business got its start when Max decided he wanted to do something different in the golf industry.  Being a big fan of streetwear, developing a brand around golf streetwear felt like a dream come true.  Thus, Muni Kids was born.  During the early days of Muni Kids, Max and his mom would work together to make all of the Muni Kids covers by hand.  As Max would travel to shows to rep the brand, all the high-end clubs were asking for custom logos rather than the Muni Kids label.  Not wanting to compromise the Muni Kids brand, Max decided to spin off the “handmade” part of the business into Reinland Golf Co.

Muni Kids

As mentioned above, Muni Kids started out with the idea of making golf streetwear.  Since its inception about four years ago, the brand has morphed into more of a golf lifestyle brand “inspired by municipal golf culture.”  The Reinland family grew up living the dream on their local muni rather than playing in the fancy exclusive clubs in the area.  So much of this upbringing reflects who they are as adults and they wanted to build their brand around this culture.  Muni Kids offers a wide range of golf lifestyle products featuring hats, t-shirts, sunglasses, and a lot more.  A full introduction to Muni Kids is forthcoming, so stay tuned.

Reinland Golf Co

Reinland Golf Co is the portion of the business where everything is “handmade with a love for the game.”  The products embody the history of the game and the current trends in golf with a high standard of craftsmanship.  Since launching about two years ago, the brand has been growing rapidly as they impress the golf world with their unique wools and range of handmade golf accessories.  If headcovers aren’t enough for you, you can even pick up wine and whiskey bottle bags!  Again, a full introduction is forthcoming, and you can see our review of the Reinland Golf Co Linksman here.

Final Thoughts

Working hard to realize their dreams motivates the Reinland family every day.  I’m sure working so closely with your family can be extremely rewarding and very challenging, especially in the super competitive and tireless golf industry.  When you ask the Reinlands, it’s all in a day’s work.  According to Maxton, the key is “love, loyalty, and leniency.  It’s easy to work together when you learn to appreciate each other’s oddities. I absolutely wouldn’t have it any other way.”  With so many boutique golf brands popping up in the industry, the Reinland family’s efforts carry an endearing charm.  Muni Kids and Reinland Golf Co are a true labor of love, and the Reinland family is just getting started.
