What Part of Your Game Are You Working On?

What Part of Your Game Are You Working On This Winter?

As I’ve realized we are in the waning moments of the golf season, I’ve also realized I have to figure out how to fill that void for the next few months.  Unfortunately I don’t have the luxury to travel to all the warm locations to keep the dream alive until Spring.  True, we’ll be out in the cold temperatures doing our best to get some golf in at whatever course will let us.  Regardless, this realization made me think, “what part of your game are you going to work on this winter?”  As I mulled it over, I thought this is a question that more golfers should be asking themselves too.

In this day and age there are plenty of ways to keep the swing fresh and work on a few things during the cold season.  I’ll walk you through what we’re going to be working on for the next few months while we wait for next season to get here.  Then I want to hear what all of you plan on attacking this offseason.

What DRH is Working On

If you follow our site somewhat regularly, you’ll know I’ve been in recovery.  I finally decided to really get after fixing my wedge yips once and for all!  (You can catch up on a bunch of the saga here.)  My big plan for the winter is to keep plugging away at the practice plans and techniques I’ve been working with.  Maybe check in with a trusted resource or two to get some second opinions.  Either way, that should keep me plenty busy and be doable indoors.  The other area I want to focus on is driving consistency.  I had a lot of rounds this year where I just couldn’t find the driver and had to scramble all day.  Not a great combo when you have wedge yips too.  Either way, more consistency off the tee will be a nice advantage for me when Spring hits.

Jon’s plan is pretty straightforward – put together a more dedicated practice plan.  When I asked Jon what he was going to work on, he replied, “well, I feel like I pretty much flat out [suck] at golf right now.”  Seeing as he doesn’t play as much as he used to, he feels that showing up to the course/range and winging it just doesn’t work.  So Jon is going to focus on figuring out a good practice routine to develop consistency and good habits to call on out on the course.

Tommy’s goals are my favorite, and likely the most realistic of the group.  When Jon mentioned his plan, Tommy said, “more dedicated practice plan?  Yikes.”  He then followed up by telling us he wants to get more consistency in his putting stroke.  He also wants to improve his wedge game.  How does he plan on accomplishing these goals?  “Without practicing.  Just praying it shows up.”  YES!  Textbook Driving Range Hero.

So that’s what we’re working on this offseason.  It all sounds great now, but we’ll see what actually happens over the next three to four months.  Now we want to know what part of your game you’re working on this offseason and how you’re going to do it.  Leave a comment below.  Who knows, maybe you’ll have a good idea and we’ll write a post about it!  It may just be what someone needs to fix the woes of their golf game too!

  1. I invested in a Puttout Mat,Mirror and Puttout Pressure Putt. I have been diligently practicing every day for the last month. The Pressure Putt is so fun! Also, I have hit the local indoor range once a week focusing on set up and routine. The best part of the indoor is they have a nice chipping and putting green so I spend jut as much time there as I do hitting balls.
Also, I just wanted to mention that I really enjoyed your review of the Sun Mountain 4.5 Bag. So much so, I bought one! Same colour too! Call me if you want to play? I’ll switch bags so we don’t match…lol
    Great site! Go Hawks!!!
