So I’ve come across the question of “who would fill your dream golf foursome” plenty of times in my golfing lifetime, and my answer always seems to change. However, today is the day that I put pen to paper, fingers to keyboard – whatever you want to call it – and write down the three guys who would make my ideal group. Now to clarify, this isn’t necessarily the same group I’d pick for my “last round of golf.” That’s a completely different story. That’d be a round with, like, my dad (who doesn’t even really play) and Bill. Probably only sentimental folks. This isn’t the same.
No, no, this is me saying “hey these are four people that actually golf (not necessarily pro golfers) that would make my dream foursome.” And right here, from the start, I’m going to apologize to Bill for not including him in this list. Sorry, Bill. Without further ado, here are the three people I’d pick.
The Easy Pro Golfer Choice: Tiger Woods
To my generation, Tiger Woods is the GOAT. The greatest golfer to have ever walked this earth. I started playing golf because of the things I saw Tiger do on the course as a young lad. Plus, he’d just be phenomenal to watch hit a golf ball up close for 18 holes. I don’t even know if I could focus. But you can’t NOT include Tiger.
The Favorite Athlete: Sidney Crosby
Sidney Crosby is one of the best to put on skates, and probably the best all around NHL-er of the last 10 years (I’m sure Bill will fight me on this). I’ve loved the guy since he came into the league in ’05, and have loved him and the Penguins ever since. Hell, I even drove 8 hours each way by myself to watch him win a Stanley Cup game. Worth it. I’ve also heard from the Spittin’ Chiclets boys that he’s a pretty solid golfer. For those reasons, he’s on my list.
The Sentimental Pick: My Cousin Rich
I know I said this isn’t all about sentimental picks, but at the same time, I want someone I’m close with to share the experience with me. For that reason, I choose my obnoxious, yet always hilarious cousin, Rich. Bill has met him, and can attest to his antics on and off of the golf course. He’s fun to play with, never takes himself too seriously, and would just be a blast to have out there. He’s also like a brother to me. Plus, I need someone in the group to be the worst golfer, so I don’t have to hold that crown.
Honorable Mentions: Bill Bush, Rory McIlroy
Here are the first two alternates. Rory is up there near Tiger for me in terms of pro golfers, so I debated having to add him. I love his game, love his attitude, and would love to enjoy a round with him. He just seems like a fun guy to play golf with.
And Bill? Well, he’s just Bill. Not many other people out there I enjoy golfing with more, especially after a few drinks and he starts getting handsy. Bill narrowly missed this list, but again, would be included on a “last round ever” list.
