TeamTaylorMade Athlete Lucas Herbert won his maiden European Tour title at the 2020 Omega Dubai Desert Classic playing 14 TaylorMade clubs and ball. This victory is the first for TaylorMade’s new SIM Drivers featuring an asymmetric sole design and enhanced Inertia Generator.
Herbert started the day six shots off the lead, but following a dramatic final day, he made birdie on both 17 and 18 to set up a play-off. Lucas then proceeded to birdie the second play-off hole to take the victory, the first European Tour win of his career.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- After testing the new SIM Drivers in Australia over the winter, Herbert put the new SIM driver straight into play in his first tournament last week in Abu Dhabi
- This week in Dubai, a tweak was made to his SIM 9.0 driver taking it from the higher setting to 1 click less in loft to optimize the pairing with his new TP5 golf ball. He launches the ball low and the spin rates suited his launch angle and complements his driving
- Lucas was struggling with spin control so made the switch from the TP5x to TP5 golf ball this week, gaining more control in the shots he had to hit this week
- Herbert’s victory is the first win for TaylorMade’s new range of SIM drivers featuring an asymmetric sole design and enhanced Inertia Generator
- Herbert opted for the titanium SIM 15.0 fairway wood to accompany his SIM 9.0 driver
- Herbert also put into play TaylorMade’s P7TW Irons for the first time last week in Abu Dhabi. This week in Dubai he had the lofts of his P7TW irons bent 0.5 degrees stronger to make them work for his change into the TP5 golf ball
- Lucas prefers a traditional looking wedge, and like most other TeamTaylorMade athletes he opts to play the Milled Grind 2 wedges featuring TaylorMade’s RAW Face Design
- Herbert’s bag is completed with the popular Spider X putter in midnight blue
