Lamkin Sonar Tour Calibrate Grip
We first introduced you to the Lamkin Sonar Tour grip mid-last year. It was a fine grip that was one of the first Lamkin models to use their tacky Genesis material and Fingerprint Technology for a consistent feel throughout the grip. The new Lamkin Sonar Tour Calibrate has the same feeatures but with the addition of a grip reminder via Calibrate Technology. By adding Calibrate Technology, Lamkin helps the golfer with control and consistent hand placement throughout the swing.
The Looks
Looks-wise, the Lamkin Sonar Tour Calibrate is about as “Bill Bush” as a grip can get. This grip is predominantly black with minimal branding, but then there’s a super bright neon yellow tastefully laced through the grip. It’s JUST the right amount of flair in a grip for my tastes.
A closer look of the Sonar Tour Calibrate will also reveal the unique micro-texture of the Fingerprint Technology. See next section…
How Does it Feel?
The Fingerprint Technology is not only a different looking tread than you’d normally see, but it also gives you a better grip with “less surface traction.” Think of that as having a good grip without a lot of rough texture in your hands. Pair that with the Lamkin Sonar Tour Calibrate’s firmer Genesis material and you have a very controllable grip with great response in it.
Let’s talk about what we’re all here for – the Calibrate Technology. If you aren’t familiar with what a “reminder” is in your grip, it’s essentially a ridge that runs the length of the grip. This reminder helps you set your clubs in your hands the same way every time. Generally, the reminder is pointed straight down, but players will shift it slightly depending on they like to grip the club. The Calibrate reminder is definitely noticeable, but it’s fairly subtle and non-invasive in your hands. That said, the comfort level of a reminder will often come down to 100% personal preference.
On-Corse Performance
The Lamkin Sonar Tour Calibrate is a solid all-around performing grip. The Genesis compound is soft and tacky enough to be comfortable in your hands, but still firm enough for good feedback. It will smooth out your feel while letting just enough “snap” come through to inform you of how well you hit your shot. In wet conditions, you won’t make mistake the Sonar Tour Calibrate for a cord grip, but there’s plenty of grip if you’re good at managing damp conditions.
Like I said earlier, using a reminder grip is going to come down to mostly personal preference. If they DO work out for you, it’s easy to feel the benefit of the Calibrate Technology. Your hands get used to where the grip is supposed to sit in your hands regardless of the club. The reminder creates a consistent point of contact which I feel makes me hyperaware of the club. What I’m saying is that throughout the whole swing I can track the club more, therefore I feel more in control.
Final Thoughts – Lamkin Sonar Tour Calibrate Grip
Again, grip selection includes a range of personal preferences. That said, the right size and good traction can mean the difference between a bad score and a good score. Players that are looking for a good all-around performer and some extra help with a consistent hand position may find the Lamkin Sonar Tour Calibrate as a nice option. If you’re looking for a little different feel than the Sonar Tour, Lamkin also offers their Calibrate Technology in two additional models which can be found on their site.
