In Episode 39 of That Range Life and my post about our last Chicago round with Tommy, I mentioned that I played a lot of golf that week. Like most golfers this year, I’ve also played quite a bit more golf overall than I normally would for a season. I figured that playing so much would help me to play some of the better golf that I’ve played in quite awhile. Especially after making so much progress with my wedge yips. In reality, it’s been pretty topsy-turvy and I’ve fought a lot of demons in my golf game. So after getting beat up at a local Donald Ross, and then again in 40 mph winds at Dubsdread, I’ve decided I’m ready to hang ’em up for the year.

I’ve actually made a lot of progress in overcoming my golfing demons, but the struggle is still very much real. It’s not that I don’t like to play anymore, or that I don’t enjoy spending time with a friend or two. ESPECIALLY given all the Covid restrictions. In fact, it’s been very nice to get outside as well as seeing faces from the outside world. I just need a mental break from the up and down roller coaster that has been my golf season. Fighting Chicagoland fall and winter weather is hard enough, nevermind dealing with an internal war in your brain at the same time. Let’s also not forget that the courses are starting to struggle with the weather as well and aren’t at their best. Which is totally fair, of course.

So that’s it, as of writing this, I have two rounds formally on the books that I’m looking forward to, but after that, it’s time to shut it down for the year. I’m sure there will the random fun rounds around some goat tracks, but otherwise, I’m officially entering maintenance and review mode for the remainder of 2020. My golf activity will be restricted to review work and getting some occasional practice in to keep the swing functional. Nonetheless, it’s been a lot of fun this season and I will welcome my offseason with open arms, and look forward to the 2021 golf season.
