I feel like I’m kind of cheating here because I posted about my original Scott Readman Concepts SWC in June last year. As I go back and look at it, I see I called that post “From the Putter Archives”. Hmm, looks like I already had a theme going…oh well, this is a different series now, ok?! Ok. Anyway, following my Black Lab BL-2 post last week, it only seemed appropriate to land on the other highly significant putter in the vault – the Scott Readman Concepts SWC putter. A unique putter near and dear to my heart.
If you follow this site at all, you know Scott Readman Concepts is woven in pretty tightly. I’m very close with the group and love their stuff. SRC will show up throughout “Inside the Putter Vault” a handful of times, but the SWC putter is really where it all started and should rightfully be covered right at the top of the list.
There Are MULTIPLE Scott Readman Concepts SWCs
I actually have three of these putters. My original SWC was a big eye-opening experience for me (linked earlier). You’ll find me on record in multiple places saying that I thought this was one of the weirdest looking blade putters I’d ever seen. It just wasn’t my style, but as a fair independent golf reviewer, I kept an open mind. Thank god I did… There’s something about how the putter balances, the feel from the fly milling on the face, and the response from that hand-bent round swan neck. The SWC quickly became one of my favorites culminating in the “BB” putter pictured above.
I’m fortunate to travel to England on business and I usually swing through Bristol to see Scott before I leave. Over two of those trips Scott and I worked on creating this putter. (Read: Scott did most of the work, I did about 2.5 stamps – try to guess which ones…) Getting to work with Scott, literally side by side, to complete this putter was an experience that transcends putter collecting and golf.
This black one is an early prototype finish that I also got on one of those trips. I’d seen pictures of the putter prior to visiting, but when I saw it in person, my jaw hit the floor. It was amazing.
The greens and purples that come through are almost like an oily snake skin. Just beautiful. In short, I ended up heading back to the States with this putter in 2016 and it has a lot of sentimental value to me.
The SWC is one of three putter models that regularly goes into the bag. Typically, whenever I feel like my putting is a hot mess, I throw my “BB” SWC in the bag and it seems to reset everything. It’s just such a good putter. I’ve seen more than one person make the switch after trying one of mine so I know it’s true.
