True Temper Score LT
A quick glance at our site and it’s pretty evident that I’m a pretty big golf gear nerd. I love working on clubs. Whether it’s customizing, building, or fixing them, I just enjoy the “craft”. So one day I needed to order a bunch of supplies that I was running low on so I went to my preferred supply website. When I landed on their homepage, there was a big ad for their “most popular best-selling steel shaft” on their site – the True Temper Score LT steel shaft. Normally, I’d just disregard this and move on with my visit, but something said to me “man, this place sells a lot of parts and components, that’s a pretty big claim. I better find out what the story is here…”
How Does it Feel?
The True Temper Score LT is the same shaft whether you’re looking for a regular or a stiff flex. The Magic sauce is in how you trim and prepare the shaft. For a whole set, the raw shaft is the same length and profile, and will be tip trimmed according to specific instructions per club. Generally speaking, stiff flex will tip trim about an inch more. (Of course, there are extensive tip trimming instructions available.) What’s nice about these shafts is that there is an extended parallel tip section so you really can tip trim to whatever needs the player might have from a feel and performance perspective.
In terms of the usual feel descriptors, the Score LT is a noticeably lighter weight shaft, but didn’t feel too loose. It’s easy swinging with moderate feedback and solid balance and control. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for faster swinging players, but it’s an easy feeling launch for more moderate tempos.
On-Course Performance
Pretty straightforward, consistent, and easy. That’s really the best way to sum up the True Temper Score LT shafts. At $9.99 a pop, I imagine the reason these steel shafts are so popular is that they’re an extremely affordable option for players looking to replace a broken damaged iron shaft. Players with super specific needs/preferences are likely willing to spend more money and seek certain characteristics in their irons. So it’s probably safe to assume that the consumer of the Score LT is someone looking for something fairly neutral and easy to control. I’m comfortable in saying that the Score LT accomplishes this goal.
As someone who is more particular about their setup and would generally not be the audience of this shaft, I will say I had a nice and easy medium-high trajectory and could shape it both ways. The stock shot for me was fairly neutral, MAYBE with a hint of draw. They might be a touch spinny, but the target audience is likely benefiting from that attribute as it will hold the ball in the air longer and result in more stopping power on greens.
Final Thoughts – True Temper Score LT Iron Shaft
Are the True Temper Score LT steel iron shafts the sexiest steel shaft out on the market? Of course not, but at $10 a shaft, they are an affordable option for a reliable performer that will fit a lot of casual golfers. If I’m totally honest, I didn’t have great expectations for these, but they definitely exceeded them. Let me put it to you this way, I have tested many iron shafts that are much more expensive and had a harder time hitting good shots. So the next time you “accidentally” snap a shaft and need a replacement without breaking the bank, the Score LT is certainly a viable option. Just make sure you or the builder knows the correct trimming instructions and how to do it.

Great review. How do these shafts compare to a Nippon, in terms of vibration reduction? Also, I see these shafts come in R/S from Golfworks? How does the flex profile compare to, say the Elevate 95 shaft? Thanks Joel
Wouldn’t say they have exceptional v vibration dampening. That’s not to say it’s like a tuning fork, just not something noteworthy I have feedback on.
In terms of the bend profile, the best I can give you is that it’s fairly gradual and player friendly to more moderate tempos. Not really sure I can easily compare it to anything.
