Puma GS-One Golf Shoe
The new Puma GS-One golf shoe is heavily inspired from Puma’s popular Systems running shoe platform. IN FACT, GS stands for…Golf Systems! With a modern silhouette, the GS-One is intended to be a comfortable and versatile shoe for golfers both on and off the course. This spikeless golf shoe comes with a one-year waterproof guarantee and is available in five different colorways.
The Looks
Puma Golf’s GS-One will appeal to players that prefer a more athletic look in their golf shoes. At a quick glance, the GS-One is reminiscent of a modern running shoe profile. There are four basic colorways to choose from such as black, grey, white, and navy blue. However, if you want to get a little more daring, there’s also a patriotic red, white, and blue colorway that makes a bold statement.
Comfort Level
Puma’s “softshell” golf shoes tend to be incredibly comfortable and an easy all-day wear on the golf course. The new GS-One is no exception. It’s incredibly light and the EVA foam cushioning is soft on your feet while the TPU Support Shank in the midsole provides good support in the arch area. The fit is fairly spacious but the “integrated TPU saddle” works with the midsole to provide good stability and support. What this means is that your foot won’t move around while walking or swinging a club as long as you have your laces tied appropriately. The upper also has a lower/minimal profile on your foot which made me feel like I had a little more freedom/mobility without the shoe feeling loose and unsupported.
On-Course Performance
My general performance “assessment”, especially for spikeless shoes, comes down to comfort and stability. I’d imagine I’m not alone there, but if a shoe crushes in those areas, I’m happy. As discussed above, the Puma GS-One is certainly comfortable and easy to walk in for 18+ holes. They’re soft and flexible, but supportive throughout the swing. It’s definitely a more “free range of motion” shoe, so keep that in mind if you prefer heavy rigidity in your footwear.
From a traction standpoint, I’ll be honest, I was skeptical when I opened the box. The “carbon rubber with radial traction” (aka the rubber nubs) on the bottom have good coverage but are pretty small. However, this traction pattern provided substantial grip on the course. In an effort to make the experience relatable, I’d almost describe it as velcro-like. The many small and tight contacts with the ground provide a secure grip on a variety of surfaces. Then when you transition to a concrete/asphalt parking lot, you don’t get the slippery reaction that many “transitional” spikeless golf shoes have. So I’m confident in saying that if you have a balanced golf swing and generally mix well with spikeless golf shoes, the GS-One provides plenty of traction.
Final Thoughts – Puma GS-One Golf Shoe
Puma bringing running shoe concepts to golf shoes makes a lot of sense. Both sports depend on the athlete wearing their footwear for lengthy periods of time while staying as comfortable as possible and performing at an optimal level. The GS-One golf shoes do this well. They’re a really easy wear for an entire day of golf and provide great traction for players that possess a well-balanced swing and prefer a little range of motion in their shoes. So if extreme comfort for long day of golf is what you’re looking for, the Puma GS-One is certainly worth considering.
Great review. I love my GS1 Puma golf shoes. I haven’t walked on the golf course in a long time and these make you able to walk very easily. Now that I saw this review I’m going to buy another pair and white.
