In what was a historic performance Sunday, the latest Champion Golfer of the Year put on a performance for the ages capturing his first major championship in style. The Aussie is considered to be an underdog but proved that is not the case when it comes to big-time moments. In March, he won the PGA TOUR’s flagship event in the PLAYERS Championship and now just four months later he is the Open champion. He’s only the second player in history to win both the Players and Open in the same season, joining Jack Nicklaus. Not bad company to keep. The historic performance did not stop there. With the KBS TOUR 130X in his bag, he matched the best score to par in major history at 20-under while also carding the lowest closing nine-hole stretch at the Open with a 30. He ranked first in strokes gained approach, gaining 13 strokes better than the field (ranks 2nd overall in the ’22 season). This is his third win of the season. A worthy champion indeed.
