REKS Sunglasses Review

REKS Sunglasses

REKS Sunglasses aims to bring the highest quality lenses in an unbreakable frame, all at an affordable price point.  Affordable shades with the qualities of high-end sunglasses, designed for active individuals?  Count us in.

The secret is all in the lens.  REKS’s CEO, George Granoff, described the brand as  “a lens company that delivers their product in an unbreakable frame.”  How do they do this?  They sell their polycarbonate lenses directly to the consumer, at a $50 price point compared to the $150+ of their competitors.  Today, they offer everything from  standard polycarbonate lenses, polarized lenses, prescription lenses, and even transition lenses, all at affordable prices compared to the competition.  The best part?  The performance is right on par with the larger, more expensive name brands.

The Looks

Currently, REKS offers seven different styles in their unbreakable frame collection.  They have anything from a classic wrap-around frame, to a more sporty frame that you’d associate with golf sunglasses.  They even have options for more modern women’s styles as well.  REKS offers their polycarbonate lenses or polycarbonate polarized lenses in a variety of colors in each frame option.  Whether you want a more traditional look, or a more modern look with some colored frames, REKS will have a combination that can work for  you.

Comfort Level

Plain and simple, REKS are some of the most comfortable sunglasses I have ever put on.  I have a few pairs of higher-end sunglasses, and both pairs of REKS I tested more than held their own against them.  I often find other glasses give me a headache after a half hour of wear and I end up taking them off.  I never once experienced this with REKS.  The fit is fantastic, and they don’t pinch/create pressure behind or above your ears (and believe me, my head is pretty large).

The frames are also extremely lightweight, which adds to the comfort level.  You can hardly feel them on your face while wearing them.  Nobody wants some heavy frame resting on their nose, especially when golfing.

On-Course Performance

With a lightweight, flexible frame, you might be thinking “well, won’t they move all over my face when I’m swinging a club?”  That’s not the case.  Since the REKS frames are so flexible, they create a perfect fit to keep the frames steadily in place, and don’t move at all throughout the swing.

Now, what’s this unbreakable business all about?  It’s exactly that: unbreakable frames.  The frames themselves are all constructed with an advanced lightweight polymer frame.  You can bend the arms of the frame into a straight line with the frames, and they won’t snap.  Once you release the pressure, they return to their normal shape as if nothing happened.  Fold them in half?  Same result.  This is great for golf, especially if you find yourself frequently sitting on your glasses in your cart, etc.  While the frames are unbreakable, the lenses are still polycarbonate, so they can still get scratched, so just keep that in mind.  If you’re worried they’re not actually “unbreakable,” have no fear.  REKS offers a 2 year warranty on their glasses.

As far as the lenses, there’s always a debate on whether to go polarized or not.  George Granoff noted that while many recreational golfers think polarized is better, many Tour pros he’s spoken with prefer the exact opposite.  Normal polycarbonate lenses block out the sun without any sort of distortion to vision or depth perception issues.  With that, I still don’t wear any glasses when reading putts, but this was an interesting angle, as I always thought polarized would be better.  However, no matter your preference, REKS offers both polarized and non-polarized lens options.

Final Thoughts

REKS Sunglasses offer a sensational product at a sensational price.  The unbreakable frames live up to their name, and the lenses are fantastic.  Add that to them being extremely comfortable, and you have a real winner here.  Best of all?  Their polycarbonate lenses with frames start at just $30, with polarized lenses running you $50.  You just can’t find quality sunglasses at this price point.  High quality, top performance, and affordable prices are about all you can ask for.  So next time you’re looking to buy a new pair of quality sunglasses, make sure you check out REKS.
