Sun Mountain Tour Series+ Rain Jacket

Your rain jacket has the ability to completely make or break your day on a golf course in an instant. Like, when you show up to some premium destination course you’ve had on the calendar for a year, but unfortunately you’re met with rain. You came all this way and spent all this money so a little rain can’t stop you. The Sun Mountain Tour Series+ rain jacket is just the rainwear for this job! More than just a comfortable outer layer, the Sun Mountain Tour Series+ jacket is packed with technology making it an elite choice for wet weather on or off the golf course.

The Looks

Sun Mountain currently offers the Tour Series+ rain jacket in four different colorways. There’s the cadet-white pictured here, a modest black-steel, a royal blue-cadet, and the flashy spruce-navy. Something to fit the tastes of any golfer looking to stay dry! The contrast of the color blocks gives the jackets enough character for a little style, but isn’t so loud that you’re making an over-the-top fashion statement (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Branding is kept to a minimum with smaller Sun Mountain logos on the right shoulder and the back neck area. The general cut of the jacket is athletic for a fairly flattering fit as opposed to a big baggy piece of outwear.

Comfort Level

There’s a temperature control technology used in the Sun Mountain Tour Series+ rain jacket called “37.5”. It’s called this because 37.5º Celsius is the body’s ideal core temperature and this material helps your body maintain said temperature. It works by removing “moisture as vapor” before it turns to a cold sweat so the relative humidity stays comfortable. Additionally, on cooler days, it will retain just enough heat to keep you warm without making you sweat.

While my experience was less scientific, I can only assume that my general comfort level and lack of sweating inside the jacket throughout a round can be attributed to the 37.5 technology. In regards to staying dry, the Tour Series+ certainly keeps water out and has velcro cuffs to seal up the arm openings. There’s also an adjustable waist so you can keep updrafts out of the jacket as well. Last but not least, the Tour Series+ has a 4-way stretch that allows a full range of motion to comfortably make a golf swing.

*Note: 37.5 will work for the lifetime of the jacket and does not wash out.

On-Course Performance

The Sun Mountain Tour Series+ rain jacket carries ratings of 20,000+ mm waterproof, 30,000+ MVP breathability. I’m no textile expert, but a quick Google search tells me anything over 16,000 has a high water resistance. At 20,000+, rest assured you’re going to stay nice and dry. The only water you might take on is if some sneaks in around the neck. 30,000 MVP is also as good as it gets for breathability, apparently. What I can tell you is that I felt a lot more “temperately” comfortable in this jacket than a lot of other golf rain jackets from my past. Additionally, the “taped” zippered pockets will keep their contents dry!

So, great, the Tour Series+ keeps you dry, but you still need to be able to play golf in it. Like any layer, if you bulk up too much, it’ll be difficult to make a functional golf swing. I actually tested the Tour Series+ on an absolute frigid day so I had a hoodie on underneath for extra warmth. With all of these layers, I was still able to make my normal golf swing and not feel restricted. Don’t get me wrong, the uncomfortably cold temperatures made it tough to loosen up and golf was still a bad choice that day… Even still, I felt free and mobile wearing the Tour Series+ rain jacket.

Final Thoughts – Sun Mountain Tour Series+ Rain Jacket

Sun Mountain claims the Tour Series+ rain jacket gives you “the luxury of ignoring the most extreme conditions so you can focus on your game”. From my experience, I would say this is a very fair assessment. I found the jacket to be extremely comfortable and effective in the elements with excellent mobility for a golf swing. The 37.5 technology is the real deal. My overall comfort was great and my general body temperature was well regulated. I can’t stress enough at how critical this is for a rain jacket on the golf course. So if you’re looking for a top of the line rain jacket, the Sun Mountain Tour Series+ certainly fits the bill and will definitely deliver!
