Tour Edge Hot Launch E524 Fairway Wood
Designed to have a high level forgiveness with easy launch, the Tour Edge Hot Launch E524 fairway wood is great affordable option for players seeking super game improvement. With technologies such as Houdini sole, Ridgeback, and Diamond Face VFT, the E524 is about as easy to hit as a fairway wood can be. Even better, golfers don’t have to break the bank to put one of these in their bag.
The Looks
The Tour Edge Hot Launch E series features offset throughout all of the clubs to reduce slicing behaviors. Or in other words, they have a draw bias making it easier to not slice the ball as much. As such, the Hot Launch E524 fairway wood has a pretty nice head shape with a notable amount of offset. It still sets up nicely and sits well behind the ball. Helping the club to sit well is the Houdini Sole. This unique sole places more mass low and deep in the head for more launch and stability. The Houdini Sole also helps with turf interaction which we’ll discuss in the next section.
How Does it Feel?
Tour Edge founder David Glod says it’s the Tour Edge Hot Launch E524 is the “easiest fairway wood you will ever hit.” Easy. That’s the best way to describe how it feels, in my opinion. The club is very well balanced and has a low and deep center of gravity (CG) courtesy of the Houdini Sole. This makes the club’s MOI higher for better balance throughout the swing, but it also travels smoothly through most lies due to minimal contact between the sole and ground. The slightly curved leading edge further enhances turf interaction, especially on heavier swings.
Additionally, the Hot Launch E524 fairway wood features Ridgeback technology on the crown and Diamond Face VFT (Variable Face Thickness) technology behind the face. Ridgeback enhances the head’s rigidity, optimizing energy transfer to the ball for a solid, powerful feel. Diamond Face VFT incorporates a series of diamond shapes of varying thickness behind the face that act like “mini trampolines” at impact. This technology significantly improves mishit feel and performance while providing ample ball speed. There’s plenty of feedback so you know exactly where you struck the ball.
How Does it Sound?
The Tour Edge Hot Launch E524 fairway wood does have a slight metallic tone to it, but it’s definitely far from overbearing. A clean sweep through the turf results in a clean, crisp “clip” sound. Thanks to Diamond Face VFT, there’s quite a bit of generosity in the face. If you miss toward the extreme toe or heel, the sound opens up a bit. I don’t find it overly hollow, which again, is likely related to the increased rigidity from the Ridgeback sole.
On-Course Performance
Club Speed | Ball Speed | Launch Angle | Spin | Carry (Yds) | Total (Yds) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
108.6 | 157.5 | 13.2º | 3400 | 252.9 | 265.1 |
Forgiving, easy to launch, and anti-right are accurate descriptions of the Tour Edge Hot Launch E524 fairway wood. The low and deep CG design makes it easy to get the ball in the air and carrying. While the club does produce slightly extra spin, it’s designed to help players hold the ball in the air for longer carry distances. Having a shallower face, the Hot Launch E524 is very conducive to smooth clip off of the grass that rises and carries.
Having a fairway wood that’s easy to get in the air is a great advantage for a player seeking extreme forgiveness. As nice as that is, the Hot Launch E524’s anti-right tendency is what really jumps out to me. If you’re a big slicer of the ball, the offset design makes squaring/closing the face at impact easier. Doing so helps you keep the ball away from the right side of the course. Or at the very least, greatly reduce your slice. There’s a sole weight located towards the heel. This also helps square the club face to promote a draw.
