Dragon Skin Golf Grip
Dragon Skin golf grips have become increasingly popular among golfers seeking a balance between comfort and control. Made with a proprietary Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) material, the Drago Skin golf grip boasts a unique “convex” design that promises enhanced feel and performance. These grips also feature a variety of interesting textures and a super tacky feel.
The Looks
The Dragon Skin golf grip comes in two main variants: Calm and Fire. The grips feature a pebble-like texture, and are available in standard and ribbed. Both options come in a classic black or blue color with a subtle Dragon Skin logo near the open end. The Calm is noted by a green butt cap, and the Fire features a red cap. More on the differences in the next section!
How Does it Feel?
If tacky with tons of traction is your preference, the Dragon Skin golf grip delivers those traits in spades. The TPE material is designed to be soft yet firm, providing a comfortable hold without sacrificing responsiveness. The “convex” design, with its raised texture, aims to increase hand “engagement” and promote a secure grip, particularly for golfers who tend to sweat or play in humid conditions.
Depending on your choice of Calm or Fire, the feel will differ slightly. As the name suggests, the Calm grip offers a softer, smoother feel. This makes them a good option for golfers who prioritize comfort. The Fire grips provide a noticeably firmer feel. This can be beneficial for golfers who are looking for less twist in their hands on powerful swings. Both grips are extremely tacky and some of the better traction that I’ve seen out of a rubber grip.
On-Course Performance
I typically don’t do well with rubber grips, for whatever reason, and have been a big cord grip user for years. Anything without cord just slips and twists in my hands like crazy. Very much to the Dragon Skin golf grip’s credit, I haven’t experienced any of my typical “rubber grip issues” since putting them on a few clubs. The combination of response and consistent control was impressively strong thanks to the grip’s etching patterns. Additionally, the tacky surface of Dragon Skin grips manages moisture well both in humid and rainy conditions.
Though it may be too early to tell, so far the Dargon Skin golf grip seems notably durable. One of my biggest complaints about rubber grips is that they generally don’t last too long. This is especially noticeable to me with my general “not gripping rubber grips well” issues. After regular use over more than a month, the Dragon Skin grips still feel about the same as they did when I first installed them. Don’t get me wrong, they do require some cleaning after a few uses, but they’re definitely holding up well. As with any golf grip, their lifespan will depend on frequency of use and proper care.
Final Thoughts – Dragon Skin Golf Grip
Golfers seeking a comfortable, reliable, and tacky grip should consider Dragon Skin. The unique TPE material and convex design promote a secure hold and enhanced feel, with two different options catering to different preferences.
While Dragon Skin grips come in at a slightly higher price point around $18, they offer a premium feel and performance that justifies the cost for those that don’t mind the investment. These grips are an interesting option for discerning golfers who prefer a rubber grip and prioritize a secure hold with exceptional feel. Gear enthusiasts are likely to appreciate the unique design and performance benefits Dragon Skin grips provide.
