VA Composites Synystr Shaft Review

VA Composites Synystr Shaft

The VA Composites Synystr is a golf shaft designed for high swing speed players who seek exceptional performance and control. This shaft features a low to mid launch with a progressive bend profile, promoting a penetrating ball flight for players with higher swing speeds. Its stiffer tip section results in a more consistent trajectory and tighter shot dispersion. True to any other VA Composites shaft I’ve crossed paths with, the Synystr has a clean and precise response as well.

The Looks

In true VA Composites fashion, the Synystr shaft features flashy graphics inspired by classic comic heroes and villains. The bright yellow, green, purple, orange, and pink “spray paint” theme really pops on the glossy black base coat. There’s a stenciled “Synystr” wordmark within the graphics really contributing to the shaft’s graffiti vibe. Look closely and you’ll find a couple Synystr faces hidden throughout as well. In the label down position, the Synystr is primarily black with just a bit of the colors from the label side bleeding over and a single Synystr face in the center of the shaft.

Feel 7

How Does it Feel?

Like I said in the intro, VA Composites shafts consistently have a really nice feel to them. VA used a “progressive bend profile” in the Synystr. What does that even mean, Bill?! Essentially, different areas of the shaft will have a different amount of flex for optimal feel and performance. I’d say this gives the overall feel an element of a little more precision. Being the Synystr is designed to be lower launching and spinning, the kick point is closer to the hands. I wouldn’t say it’s super rigid in the butt section, but it’s definitely noticeable. I feel like the kick is more gradual and easy on the hands. The tip section is stiffer so it feels stable through impact and easier to control. Overall, the feel is very smooth and clean for a pretty stable golf shaft.

Honestly, the VA Composites Synystr delivers exactly as advertised. My swing speed is on the higher side and I found the shaft to be an easy and powerful mid launcher with tight dispersion. If I wanted a lower launch, I had no problem making that adjustment to keep the ball down. What caught my attention the most was how easy it was to get the ball in the air and in “the window”. I’m not sure if that’s due to the progressive torque values throughout the shaft, but it was easy to groove and consistently find its natural slot. Don’t get me wrong, I still think a good club fitting and having the swing speed for it will be pretty important to optimize your shot. But if you do that, the Synystr will play pleasantly easy in your driver and/or fairway woods.
