VA Synystr CB Shaft Review

VA Synystr CB Shaft

VA Composites introduced the golf world to one of the most extreme counter balance shafts the market has ever seen in the VA Nemesys. Man, I loved that shaft so much in my Cobra Speedzone driver. Following in those footsteps is the VA Synystr CB shaft. By infusing tungsten powder into the composite material, VA enhances the handle’s stability without increasing the shaft wall’s thickness. This results in a smoother and more precise feel. Additionally, the Synystr CB offers one of the lowest launch and spin profiles in the VA family.

The Looks

There may not be another brand out there that turns heads with their shaft graphics quite like VA Composites. The VA Synystr CB is no exception. Black and a powdery aqua blue, with a dash of grey and red make up the base colors of the shaft with a stencil spray paint white Synystr CB graphic. As has become signature to VA shafts, there are a couple villain-esque faces in the graphics as well. With the shaft positioned label down (pictured above), the appearance is a little more subdued so as not to distract your eye. The signature comic-villain face in the middle is the perfect touch.

How Does it Feel?

Like my original Nemesys, the VA Synystr CB has an extreme counter balance that makes for a unique feel compared to most others in the market. In addition to balancing out the head weight better, I’ve come to appreciate this counter balance with my quicker tempo and transition. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like this gives me more response at the start of the downswing and better control. This is critical because this is quite often the exact point where I seem to lose control of my swing.

Also helping make the shaft feel more controlled is its stiff handle, and extra stiff mid and tip sections. It’s a relatively smooth bend which I prefer in lower launching shafts. A sharp, distinct kick around your hands just doesn’t feel good to me. This gives the shaft a higher kick point and a tight feel at impact from the extra-stiff tip which utilizes T1100 composite material. Don’t let that flex profile for you though. As stable as the Synystr CB is, it’s still crisp and very responsive.

I found that I was able to swing the VA Synystr CB a little bit faster and with more control than its standard counterpart. The counterbalanced design made it easier to find a consistent groove, helping me feel more confident swinging aggressively without sacrificing consistency. As a result, I was able to swing a little harder while still finding the center of the face more often.

Launch and spin were firmly in the lower end of the mid-range, or the higher end of low depending on how you look at it. The ball flight was strong and piercing, providing a nice powerful tee shot. I also found it easy to manipulate my trajectory when needed whether launching it higher or flighting it down into the wind. Much of this workability seemed to stem from the improved connection and responsiveness I felt through my hands with the counterbalanced setup.
