MGI Sureshot SlimPRO Rangefinder
When it comes to laser rangefinders, golfers have plenty of options, but finding the right mix of accuracy, ease of use, and value can be tricky. I also know that I’m very picky about certain things that may seem silly to others, but matter a lot to me. One of those major things for me is a compact unit that’s easy to get out of the case and aiming quickly, then back in the case just as fast. Nothing frustrates me more, for whatever reason, than a big, bulky rangefinder. The MGI Sureshot SlimPRO aims to check all those boxes with its sleek design, reliable performance, and efficient features. All of this is available at a moderate price point of $299.
Out of the Box
Right out of the gate, the MGI Sureshot SlimPRO makes a good first impression. Inside the box, you get the rangefinder itself, a sturdy carrying case with a carabiner for easy bag attachment, a USB-C charging cable, a microfiber cleaning cloth, and an easy-to-follow user manual. Unlike many other laser rangefinders that rely on replaceable batteries, the Sureshot SlimPRO features a built-in rechargeable battery, which is a nice touch. Setup is simple. Charge it up, press the power button, and you’re ready to go in no time. A simple press of the Mode button quickly cycles through whichever of three modes you want to use.
Features
The MGI Sureshot SlimPRO packs a solid lineup of features designed to help golfers dial in their distances with confidence. It delivers 7x magnification, providing a clear and sharp view of your target, whether it’s the flag, a bunker, or tree. The built-in slope mode gives adjusted yardages based on elevation changes, making it a great tool for hilly courses. As should be expected, it can be turned off for tournament play. No one will wonder when slope is on because of the bright blue light that emanates from the side. One of its standout features is the pulse vibration technology, which confirms when the rangefinder locks onto the flag, eliminating any guesswork.
Speed and accuracy are also impressive, delivering fast readings with a precision of within a yard. Unlike many rangefinders that require replaceable batteries, the SlimPRO features a rechargeable battery, meaning no more swapping out expensive CR2 batteries. Just plug it in as needed.
There are three different modes to choose from. First is Pinloc mode which will lock onto your target and display the distance for 15 seconds. Then there’s Priority Lock which ignores background objects and prioritizes “focal points”. Last is the traditional scan mode to quickly scan and grab multiple distances to calculate your next shot.
On-Course Performance
Out on the course, I found the MGI Sureshot SlimPRO to be fast and reliable. The 7x magnification made it easy to zero in on flags from all distances. My preferred mode was Pinloc mode and the locking pulse vibration was always reassuring. Slope is also a nice benefit on the course and I found it to be reliable and accurate when making my club selections. The accuracy was on par with some higher-priced competitors, and I still haven’t had to recharge the battery through multiple rounds of use. If there are any notable battery life events, I’ll be sure to report back accordingly.
The display is fairly basic and in black. It can be a little tricky to see in certain lighting, but certainly not a deal breaker.
Final Thoughts – MGI Sureshot SlimPRO Rangefinder
Overall, the MGI Sureshot SlimPRO is an excellent option for golfers looking for a compact, feature-packed rangefinder at a competitive price. It delivers fast, accurate distances, useful slope calculations, and convenient recharging all in a sleek and lightweight design. If you’re in the market for a reliable and user-friendly laser rangefinder, the SlimPRO is definitely worth considering.
