KBS Wins 2025 Mexico Open

Carlsbad, CA – The Red Label claimed the 2 Top spots on the leaderboard after an exciting playoff between 2 KBS players! The winner had KBS Tour 120 S shafts in his Ping irons and Tour 130 X shafts in his Vokey wedges. Also, the runner up had KBS V10 shafts in his irons. The relatively unknown 31-year-old KBS player was off to an unexpected rough start the past couple events and would need a complete turnaround to get his season going in the right direction. His last 7 starts consisted of 5 cuts and 2 top 50 finishes. The pressure was on going into the event. He got off to a solid start on Thursday with a great opening score of 65. Friday, he kept his foot on the gas and shot another score of 65. He was now in contention going into the weekend and would need to play aggressive to stay atop the leaderboard. Saturday, he improved with a low score of 64 and had sights at his first tour victory. The final round on Sunday would prove to be a pressure cooker for the 31-year-old who had another fellow KBS player with a chance at the victory. Both players got off to slow starts on the front nine and would need to shoot 1 stroke lower than the other to be atop the leaderboard. They both had all pars going into the 18th hole. Rising to the occasion they both made birdies on the 18th to force a playoff. The first playoff hole they made par and would have to return to the par-5 18th hole to possibly decide the tournament. The 31-year-old got the luckiest break of his career on his tee shot that should have flown out of bounds. Instead, the ball hit a tree branch and bounced right back into the fairway, setting him up a long second shot. He was just as shocked as the crowd was with the lucky break he has received. He hit his second shot just short of the green and next one close to the pin. His opponent hit his second shot short in the bunker and flew his next shot 6 feet by the pin. He missed his 6-foot birdie putt, leaving the door wide open for the 31-year-old. The relatively unknown KBS player faced the biggest putt of his career and went on to make it. After all the ups and downs in his career, he was now a winner on the PGA Tour. He said, “You’ve got to get those breaks sometimes. Unfortunately, I hit a really bad tee shot there, caught the tree, was able to keep it in play and get ourselves in a good position to get a wedge and keep the pressure on. I was just so happy that I was able to kind of stay in it to the end”. Congratulations go out to the Winner’s and all the players in the field at the Mexico Open! | Player Driven. Tour Proven. |
