The Red Label has an early lead at the Cognizant Classic after a young KBS player shot a jaw dropping 59 at the tough PGA National Championship course. The player had KBS C-Taper 130X shafts in his PXG irons and Vokey Wedges. The 30-year-old player came into today’s round at the Cognizant Classic ready to make a statement. His statement began on the front nine with 5 straight birdies on the first 5 holes. The next 3 holes he made pars and closed out the front with another birdie on the 9th. On the back nine he birdied the 10th and 11th holes with ease. On the 12th he made par and then went on to birdie the next 3 holes. He would now find himself in potential record-breaking territory not only for the course, but for all golf courses in the entire state of Florida! Ignoring the stats and potential achievement the 30-year-old player remained focused. He went onto make 2 more pars, but would need a birdie on the last to shot in the 50’s. On the par-5 18th hole he striped a perfect drive down the middle and followed with an impressive 2nd shot that he hit to 20-feet on the green. All he needed was a 2-putt birdie to break multiple records. The KBS player rose to the occasion and made the birdie to shoot an eye opening 59. This round of 59 is the 15th Sub-60 round to ever be recorded on the PGA Tour. It not only puts the KBS player in the lead of the tournament, but in the history books of low golf rounds. He said, “I wasn’t thinking about it. I was just trying to make birdie because I hit a good shot. I thought about the number, and you think about 59, but it’s like I’ll still think tonight about how it should have been 58 or 57 or 56”. With 3 more rounds left to play at the Cognizant Classic, The Red Label has a good chance of claiming another victory. | Player Driven. Tour Proven. |
