Graphite Design Raune Iron Shaft Review

Graphite Design Raune Iron Shaft

The Graphite Design Raune iron shaft focuses on stability, precise feel, and versatility in performance across the lineup. Graphite Design utilized ultra-high modulus materials to deliver excellent stability throughout the swing, while an outer layer of pitch fiber provides optimal feel.

There are four distinct weight profiles: 60, 75, 90, and 105 grams. Each profile is designed with a different bend profile, launch window, and spin characteristics to fit a range of swing speeds and flight preferences. Whether you’re seeking a lightweight graphite alternative to steel or a higher-performing graphite option with strong control, Raune is a compelling graphite iron shaft option.

The Looks

Graphite Design kept things clean and simple with the Raune shafts. The black base layer looks stealthy and the graphics are minimal. A modest Graphite Design logo and some basic shaft spec info at the mid section. At address, it’s all business. No distractions, no wild colors, but there is a holographic logo standing on its own. It’s a simply stated shaft, but looks really good.

Feel 6

How Does it Feel?

Depending on which weight you go with, the Graphite Design Raune will have a slightly different feel. Each weight is engineered to address the performance needs of swing speeds that are most likely to fit within the profile. The lighter weight shafts have medium-stiff butt sections while the heavier weights have firmer butt sections to withstand the torque of a faster swing speeds. If you go with 75 or 90 grams, the mid section will have a medium stiffness. The 60 gram is soft, and the 105 is firm. Where you’ll really notice the difference in feel, however is in the tip sections. The 60 and 75 grams are softer to help launch the ball higher, the 90-gram shaft is a medium-stiff tip, and the 105 gram has a firm tip section to keep the ball down and more controlled for the more powerful golf swings.

My swing is best fit for the Raune 105g so that’s the basis for the majority of my review input. The Raune did a great job offering a smoother experience while maintaining a connected, solid feel throughout the swing. The shaft definitely felt really stable, which impressed me at 105 grams as this is normally way too light for me. I suppose this can be attributed to the ultra-high modulus core as Graphite Design intended. Though the shaft is plenty stable, there’s still enough life and feedback through the shaft, which I’m assuming is thanks to the pitch layer as designed to feel connected to your shot and in control of the club.

On-Course Performance

My performance testing with the Graphite Design Raune was pretty straightforward. As I mentioned before, it was definitely important to get the right weight (and flex) for my swing. Since I have a faster swing with a more aggressive transition, I definitely needed the firmness and stability of the 105g. My flight was consistent, controlled, and a nice piercing mid-launch. I’m not sure if it’s the shaft itself, or just being a lighter weight, but I was able to easily flight the ball up in the air as well.

Now, where I’ve historically struggled with graphite iron shafts in lighter weights is when I need to manage my shot shaping. Or even when I need to really flight a ball down for something more punchy. Maybe it’s a honeymoon period, but I found all of this fairly easy to accomplish with the Raune shaft.

It’s also worth noting that I was carrying the Raune about 10-15 yards longer than my steel gamers. (I have trusted witnesses!) While I wouldn’t say I was necessarily seeking distance, it was a nice bonus to consider. The combination of smooth feel and an easier time getting the ball out there certainly stood out to me.

Final Thoughts – Graphite Design Tour Raune Iron Shaft

With different weights and profiles tailored for specific swing types, there’s something in the Graphite Design Raune lineup for just about anyone. For me, the 105g stood out as one of the few graphite iron shafts that could actually handle my swing without sacrificing control. It felt stable through aggressive transitions, but still offered enough responsiveness to feel the club throughout the swing.

What really stood out was how balanced the shaft felt. There’s plenty of structure to keep ball flight in check, but not so stout that it felt lifeless. That’s a tough combination to get right, especially in graphite at this weight. If you’re hesitant about making the switch from steel, or you’ve tried graphite before and found it too soft or inconsistent, the Graphite Design Raune is worth a look.
