Scott Readman Concepts Putter Covers
So today we’re going to talk about one of my absolute favorite companies in all of golf. That company is none other than the delightful Scott Readman Concepts out of Bristol, England – which also coincidentally happens to be where my family name roots back to. I’ve been an avid Scott Readman Concepts supporter for the past five years because I firmly believe in their products, love their range of creativity, and depend on their quality. Whether it’s a cover for an odd shaped mallet, or custom design that came to you in a dream, SRC has you covered. (That pun even made me flinch, but I’ll leave it in.)
First Impressions
Over the years I’ve been fortunate to hold in my own hands a variety of different Scott Readman Concepts putter covers from blades to mallets. I still remember four years ago when I got my first SRC box containing three blade headcovers in it. Immediately upon picking up each cover, I was blown away with the quality and overall feel of the covers. The Pittards leather and the vintage kimono silk were overwhelmingly impressive. Most importantly, the execution was perfect. Every line and stitch were just perfect. The weight was solid enough to assure you of your prized putter’s safety, but not so hefty that it feels bulky and sloppy. It was perfect.
Ever since, every new cover I’ve received has been the exact same, if not better. Just when I think I have Scott Readman Concepts figured out, I relive that astonishment process all over again. The most recent coming via a cover I received made out of vintage cork and a set of customer covers made out of some beautiful materials you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else (the covers pictured at the top of the post). This is the major reason I exclusively count on Scott Readman Concepts putter covers.
You want to talk about setting yourself apart with creativity? Check out the cover Scott and Emma made out of a vintage pair of Levi’s 501s. One day it just showed up at my door. For the perfect finishing touch, they added an old British penny in the pocket.
Design Quality
As mentioned above, Scott Readman Concepts is meticulous in their design and quality of their putter covers. Being a boutique company working out of a small shop in England, SRC understands the importance of having to strive for perfection and distinction. Over the years, they have tuned their designs to maintain their aesthetic signature while at the same time holding up to the wears and tears of the game. As silly as it sounds, one of the biggest changes SRC made was the use of a new magnet to keep their putters shut. The simple, yet extremely strong, magnet strips are seamlessly integrated into the cover that not only holds well, but doesn’t impact the overall look of the cover.
Of course, overall design quality isn’t just based on some magnets. By specializing in custom designs, there’s a lot of room for error, but SRC won’t let a single cover leave their doors with so much as a single misplaced stitch. As a result, every SRC item that leaves the shop will be flawlessly executed and a piece to be proud of.
On-Course Performance
A putter cover has two jobs as far as I’m concerned. The first is to protect my putter. The second is to stay where I put it so I don’t lose it. I’ve exclusively used Scott Readman Concepts putter covers for the past four years on everything from Anser-style heads to TaylorMade Spider Tours, and everything in between. So far, no matter what material I’ve had for my cover, I’ve experienced zero putter damage. This includes dropping a covered putter on cart paths and garage floors. Job 1 done.
As mentioned earlier, Scott Readman Concepts uses a strong magnet that I have yet to have fall off whether walking, riding, or throwing. This means, I’ve also lost zero covers. Job 2 done.
Another area to consider in performance is resistance and durability. There are a handful of covers in my collection that have been put through their paces and have held up great. The thing you have to keep in mind is what material your cover is made out of. Yes, the silk covers will still protect your putter, but you have to realize you could snag it or it could absorb dirt. It’s on you to take care of. If you want something to take a beating, get the appropriate materials. Otherwise, be very mindful of taking care of your covers properly. Conveniently, SRC provides a nice care page on their site right here.
Final Thoughts
A simple browse around the Scott Readman Concepts website will show off plenty of different options ranging from simple materials and designs all the way to opulent ideas made of rare and exotic materials. Another trip through their social media and you’ll see that they’re capable of even more. If nothing else, it becomes very obvious that this is a company that’s thinking outside the box and making sure they are different from anyone else in the business. Whether it’s with an old pair of Levi’s, your daughter’s baby clothes, authentic British military fatigues, space balloons, used car racing suits, or parachutes, Scott Readman Concepts will be able to make you one of the coolest headcovers you’ll ever see.
