The Looks

At address, the Sub 70 959X hybrid sits really nicely behind the ball with a balanced, slightly compact profile. The matte carbon-fiber crown gives it a refined, understated look, and the visible weave adds just a hint of texture without screaming for attention. Its moderate footprint and gentle pear shape set up naturally, and the simple alignment makes it easy to focus on your shot. Like most Sub 70 clubs, there’s no excess branding or flashy detail, just a clean, purposeful blacked out design that looks ready to go to work.

How Does it Feel?

Slightly off-center hits still feel firm, but with slightly less life indicating you missed the sweet spot. I really found the club to feel incredibly well balanced and consistent from any lie.

(Heavier weight = higher launch and spin, lighter weight = lower.) Meanwhile, the two adjustable heel and toe weights make shaping shots simple and predictable. I was able to dial in a nice straight flight by putting a heavier weight in the toe, which reduced natural hybrid gear-effect tendencies.

Distance is strong and consistent, and the club delivers a balance of forgiveness and workability that makes it reliable from the tee or fairway. Maybe it’s the aforementioned Cross Flow face, maybe it’s the speed pocket behind the face allowing a little more flex, I don’t know. I don’t need to know! The ball just really jumps and impressively maintains ball speeds on mishits making for a powerful, reliable hybrid.

Even so, the Sub 70 959X hybrid proved itself as a club I could rely on. From the first few swings, it felt stable, well-balanced, and predictable. The combination of Cross Flow Face Technology, adjustable weights, and a solid, responsive head makes this hybrid both powerful and versatile. Whether off the tee or from the fairway, it delivers strong, consistent distance while giving clear feedback on strike quality. For golfers who still want a hybrid in their bag, the 959X is a club that can be trusted to perform and at a great price point.
