Cody Blick Gets Clubs Stolen and Still Owns Web.com Q-School Final

I’ve shot in the 60s somewhere just around a handful of times in my life.  Each time was a culmination of everything firing on all cylinders, playing practically perfectly-fit clubs, and being in a weird Zen-like state.  I could have hit any shot from any lie the Golf Gods threw at me those days.  Then there’s Cody Blick.  While I’m sure that Blick has shot in the 60s somewhere around a zillion times in his life, I bet none have been anything like this past Sunday at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Arizona.  Going into the final round of the Web.com Q-School Final, Cody Blick sat at -10 and was looking to finish strong to secure Web.com status for the 2019 season.  There was only one problem.  Someone stole Blick’s clubs…  Seems like a tough obstacle to overcome, but this guy’s a professional, right?

That’s right.  The 25-year old Blick was heading into his most important round of his professional golf career with no golf clubs.  So what does he do?  The same thing any Millennial would do – took to social media and offered a $5k reward for the return of his clubs and ZERO questions asked.  (I can say that because I’m technically a Millennial, and Tommy IS a Millennial.)  Can’t blame the guy for trying, but unsurprisingly, the effort was unsuccessful.  So what did Blick do next?  Whatever any hugely motivated, hungry professional golfer would do.  He threw together a hodge-podge set and got out on the course to try and achieve the next big step in a lifelong dream.

Now, aside from me being a massive headcase and probably not being able to handle the pressure of the Q-School Final in general, the thought of having to play such a crucial round without the clubs I’m totally familiar with is terrifying.  It would be the death of me.  The tried-and-true trusty tools of my trade, just gone.  Just put me in a wheel barrow and bury me in a hazard somewhere on the course.  Done.  But what does Cody Blick do with his makeshift mess of a set?  Goes out and beats the Q-School Final into submission with a 9-under 63.  A 63!!!!!

Interestingly, that 63 for Blick was only good enough for T-25 and a guarantee of 8 starts on the Web.com next season.  Given what Blick was able to do under this pressure, I’m sure he’ll be able to make some magic happen and work his way into more starts on Tour in no time.

Hats off, Cody Blick, you’re an animal and we’re all excited to see what comes next.
