While we all knew it was coming, Justin Rose took to the internet to announce his Honma signing as 2019 rolled in. (Sick golf pun, bro.) So far, all we know is that it’s a ten-club, mult-year deal with no ball deal (yet), and the effort was spearheaded by former TaylorMade CEO, Mark King – now working with Honma to grow their international presence.
Golf Digest reported on Rose’s initial club configuration:
[John] Kawaja said that although the set makeup is not yet confirmed, Rose is under contract to play 10 Honma clubs. He said those clubs are likely to feature versions of models introduced late in 2018 in Japan. That group is expected to include the T//World TW747 driver; a prototype version of the forged cavity back T//World TW747 V in the 4- through 6-iron; and a prototype T//World 747 “Justin Rose” forged muscleback iron in the 7-iron through 9-iron. Rose also is expected to play custom prototype versions of the T//World TW forged wedges (47, 56 and 60 degrees).
Rose’s caddy, “Fooch,” (he’s a great Twitter follow btw) also posted this picture to Twitter:
I’ll be interested to see what happens with both Rose and Honma with this change. Will Honma blow up and make waves in the American and European markets? What ball will Rose end up playing? Will he stay successful with the new gear? What will the non-Honma clubs be? Whatever the answers, I’ll be paying close attention.
