Devereux Proper Threads
The Driving Range Heroes gang recently had a chance to suit up with Devereux Proper Threads, a sporty, stylish brand that you can wear in the office, out on the town, and of course…on the course. So what is Devereux all about? It all starts from the entrepreneurial Brunner brothers, Robert and Will. They set out to develop a clothing line that is made well, fits well, and blends modern fashion with classic sensibility. While they have a wide ranging line of products, we’ll focus on the golf appropriate threads.
The Looks
Ok, so a little about me. I’m a pretty business casual guy for my day job, and I tend continue that style to after hours too. On the other hand, drop me off at a golf course and I likely go a little bolder. (YES, I have worn white belts, but that was like 2009. Tiger did it and you did too.) My first time in my Devereux gear got me thinking that I can wear this stuff to any of those places. Here I am (above) in my Gravity pants and DVRX sweater. Pretty nice, right?!
They’ve got a great selection of tops and bottoms that work well in all seasons. The DRH guys have all been happy with their Gravity and Ford 5 pants, as well as the Off Duty hoodie and Monaco polos. This totally fits my style! You’ll be able to choose from lots of understated greys and blues (among other colors of course) with subtle patterns and textures. What I like is that they’ve been around since 2013, and that means they’ve had a chance to develop a line that mixes and matches well.
I’m no fashion blogger (or maybe I am now?) but I’d call the Devereux line “smart casual.” Versatile is another good word to use here. I can’t imagine any scenario where your boss or the guy in the starter shack will give you any grief for walking up in your Devereux Proper Threads. In fact, they’ll likely ask where you got it. I’m always of the mindset that if you’re looking good, you’re feeling good about yourself, and that’s what matters most.
Comfort and Quality
Devereux products can be found online, in stores, and in golf shops across the nation. Warning: if you can, try them on to get the perfect sizing. The pants did fit a bit snug on me. I’m a fairly average size guy, but growing up a hockey player, I’ve got some thighs that can make any pair of pants look like skinny jeans. Here’s a great thing though – they do have a slight stretch to them. That should be straight up standard for pants everywhere! What a time to be alive – you can get comfortable clothes that are as forgiving as the hottest newly released drivers…
One of the real highlights for me would have to be the quality. These are not going to come in at the lowest price point, so you expect precise manufacturing. Devereux passes the test there. You won’t find a stitch out of place – check out these pockets and zippers. I really like some of the patterns in some of the pockets too. Not like anyone is ever going to look there, but we’re talking about a high level of detail here.
Note – these pics were taken after a long day of battling in my office cubicles. Notice there’s really no major wrinkles or anything. It’s like 8am all over again.
Every Day Performance
When we talk about sports related performance, we get to an area that’s a bit hard to gauge. For golf guys like us, we mostly want to keep cool and dry in our golf clothes. Devereux of course features a selection of materials throughout the line, but our shirts with their 100% polyester moisture wicking/quick dry designs certainly do the trick. For office performance, I’ll give high marks too. I’ve suffered no injuries and my work efficiency has gone up significantly 😉
I mentioned the slight stretchiness in some of the tops and bottoms. With a small blend of spandex in there, it lets you be an “athlete” if you need to be. I happen to be wearing the Gravity model pants, so as far as golf course features, I could have a little more pocket room, but that’s why they make the Ford 5 and Passport versions… maybe I need more gear!
Final Thoughts
Devereux Proper Threads offers a broad line of sporty clothing that you can feel great wearing no matter where you go. They make high quality threads with a classic and timeless look BUT a willingness to take some risks to stay modern. They’re practical and comfortable while offering every bit of function you’d need for the office, the golf course, or anywhere else you go.
