Breakthrough Golf Technology (BGT) has established itself as specialists in extreme stability by way of unique multi-material shafts. Following the success of their original ZNE wedge shaft, BGT delivered a more optimized wedge-specific design in the new RedZNE shaft. The Breakthrough Golf Technology RedZNE is a wedge shaft designed to improve distance control, accuracy, and spin in your wedge game. It achieves this through a combination of a new stiffer carbon fiber upper section, high-performance carbon fiber tips, and a new connector. This design allows for a softer feel at impact while maintaining consistent swing weight throughout the set.

The Looks

It’s fair to say that the Breakthrough Golf Technology RedZNE shaft has one of the more unique looks you’ll find in a wedge shaft. In my opinion, the RedZNE is easier to look at than its predecessor. The carbon upper section is black with a visible weave which transitions to a thinner lower half which is also black. The transition between the two is fairly clean due to a small, black connector. It still has a slightly bulky look, but it’s much cleaner than the previous model. Branding is minimal with a small BGT logo, a RedZNE logo which pops due to the vivid “RED”. None of this branding will be visible when installed label down.

How Does it Feel?

The BGT RedZNE’s claim to fame lies in its ability to deliver a soft feel at impact despite the stiff upper section. This is achieved through the use of high-performance carbon fiber tips, which absorb much of the harshness from impact. There’s also a little more response from that carbon tip. This is really helpful as it counteracts some of the dampening/muting created by the larger, stout upper half. Overall, the RedZNE has more response/feedback than the original ZNE wedge shaft.

It’s also worth noting that the RedZNE uses a new connector that makes a big difference. First, it distributes the weight more evenly so the balance point isn’t so awkward in the middle of the shaft. This makes the RedZNE feel more manageable throughout the entire swing. The coupler also contributes to a stiffer “stiffness stack”. This is essentially the firmest part of the shaft and where the kick point lives. Said stiffness stack heavily contributes to the control we’ll discuss in the next section.

On-Course Performance

The Breatkthrough Golf Technology RedZNE shaft’s whole goal is improved distance control, tighter dispersion, and more spin. With such stability, the shaft is easy to control and is almost “dart-like” on full swings. My dispersion was indeed tight and I had a lower launch angle than I typically do with a wedge. Once I adjusted to the RedZNE, I also noticed the spin on these shots was strong. I can’t tell you I was spinning it more than my gamer wedge, but it certainly spun easier than the original ZNE wedge shaft.

It’s important to note that the effectiveness of these features can vary depending on your swing speed and personal preferences. Some golfers may find the stiffer upper section to be too much, while others may appreciate the added stability and control. For instance, I personally struggled with little pitches and chips around the green. It’s always recommended to test out the RedZNE shaft before making a purchase to see if it delivers your desired results for the shots you like to play with a wedge.

Despite its sturdiness, the RedZNE offers a surprisingly impressive feel at impact.
