Bridgestone 2022 Tour B XS Golf Ball
The new for 2022 Bridgestone Tour B XS golf ball is designed for players with a faster swing speed that want a little extra spin into the green. Oh, and the best golfer of all time (Tiger Woods) just so happens to play this ball and had a huge role in its development. Featuring Dual Dimple technology and the all new REACTIV iQ cover, the Bridgestone 2022 Tour B XS is easily one of the most well-rounded golf balls on the market.
How Does it Feel?
Generally speaking, the Bridgestone 2022 Tour B XS feels pretty perfect across the board – assuming you have the swing speed. It’s important to note that if you don’t have a faster swing speed, you won’t find the Tour B XS to feel optimal. If you’re on the more moderate side speedwise and seek more spin and bite, the Tour B RXS will have a much better overall feel for you. Promise. If you get the club around pretty quick, the Tour B XS will feel solid and active off of the driver and longer clubs. As solid as it feels off the tee, the Tour B XS feels soft and grippy into and around the greens. You can really feel the compression on irons and wedges leaving you confident in your shot manipulation.
Bridgestone’s REACTIV iQ cover utilizes what they call an “impact modifier” concept. In short, this means that the cover responds based on how hard/fast the club impacts the ball. So the faster you strike the ball, the firmer the ball is going to feel. As such, the ball’s feel will differ depending on the shot.
Off the Tee
The Bridgestone Tour B XS will still feel solid and launch off of the driver due to the REACTIV iQ’s quick rebound. In the case of the 2022 Tour B XS, it feels very solid off of the tee and absolutely jumps off of the face. Compared to its “distance” counterpart, it’s easily just as long. I would say the Tour B X fights the wind and spins a hair less, but you won’t have any issues controlling the B XS off of the tee regardless of your game. This is thanks to Bridgestone Dual Dimple technology which makes the ball more aerodynamically efficient. AKA, it flies through the air better. Based on my experience, you’ll be hard pressed to tell that this is Bridgestone’s “spin” ball from the tee box.
On the Approach
Approach shots are where the Bridgestone Tour B XS starts to set itself apart from the Tour B X distance ball. You can feel more compression in the Tour B XS, and like you’re able to get a little “cuter” with your shots. That said, if you don’t exactly have the game for “playing cute shots” and just need something to hold greens better, it does that too. I’m comfortable saying players that need a little to a bit of help generating spin on approach shots will enjoy this ball. I found a good amount of success shooting more “darts” into greens when I switched from the Tour B X to the XS covered in this review. That goes for 4 iron though pitching wedge.
Around the Green
Much like the approach shots, the 2022 Bridgestone Tour B XS excels around the green. Personally, I felt you could really feel the extra friction of the REACTIV iQ cover with wedges. The ball feels almost sticky yet responsive with a crisp clip of a wedge. As such, the Tour B XS really bites on the green for great hop and stop. Though I’m a fairly mediocre wedge player, I still saw great results. I was able to get nice bite with short chips and pitches compared to my usual Tour B X. It’s safe to say good wedge players will get all of the zip they need. Heck, Tiger’s known for extreme spin demands with wedges and this is his ball…
What I really appreciate around the green is the Tour B XS off a putter. Normally a spin ball will feel somewhat dead and marshmallowy to me. The Tour B XS, however, feels a touch soft but still present. It’s sweet, dare I say buttery, but has enough response to make you feel in control of the ball. In my opinion, the Tour B XS is Bridgestone’s best putting ball overall.
Final Thoughts – Bridgestone 2022 Tour B XS Golf Ball
Though the Bridgestone Tour B lineup is very strong, I have a hard time saying the Tour B XS doesn’t stand out from the rest to me. The REACTIV iQ cover is soft and extremely responsive into greens, but just as long and stable as the “distance” Tour B X ball. This ball really does do it all. Of course, golf balls are generally quite a bit subjective and will fit into a players preferences differently so it’s always important to test out for yourself. But if you’re looking for a strong all around performer with great feel, the 2022 Bridgestone Tour B XS is tough to beat.
I’m a bit of a ball snob. I do extensive testing every January through February to find my ball for the year and since 2021 Bridgestone has been in my bag. The 2022 B XS might be the best ball ever made. My only cause of concern is when using the salt water test to find my “tournament” balanced balls, in the last 6 months I’m noticing more and more balls failing the test. I’m having to buy two dozen to get 12 to 16 balanced balls and a recent batch was surprisingly bad. This combined with the recent MyGolfSpy analysis is giving me my first real thoughts on moving away from Bridgestone. Buying so many balls to find good balls might not be sustainable from a cost standpoint, which is really too bad because performance of what 2022 B XS can do is truly unrivaled!
From Ive read the B XS is the closest to ProV1 than any other ball. Spin, compression, distance..very similar..
Usually play Taylormade TP5X but last weekend I showed up to the course and couldn’t snag balls before hand. Told the guy I play TM/PROV1 but still not satisfied. He said try the BXS, it’s closest to PV1 and very responsive around the green. So I bought 2 sleeves. Well….. I proceeded to shoot my best round ever at Goose Creek in CA. 76! I just found my new ball. You guys have my business!
While we aren’t actually Bridgestone Golf, I’m glad you had success with their ball! I too love Bridgestone and it’s all I play.
