The Costco Kirkland Signature golf ball – a now cult classic in the golf world. Some of you may recall I reviewed the “K-Sig” awhile ago and basically said it was serviceable, but a little over hyped. Let’s call it, “just fine.” You can read the full review here to find out why. Regardless, I’ve seen firsthand how nuts people go for this golf ball. Whether it’s because they just think it’s an unreal deal or they want to be part of the ironic golf crowd, they love rippin’ ’em around the golf course.
Speaking of ripping them around the course, that’s what people have literally been doing with the latest batch of the coveted Kirkland Signature 4-Piece Costco golf ball. Just about as soon as people got their latest order in hand, reports started pouring into the forums of people literally ripping the cover off the golf ball. From what I originally read on “the biggest golf forum on the internet,” players were saying they reported the issue to Costco customer service but largely got brushed off. Apparently the persistence of angry customers paid off. Costco took action for every customer on file that ordered the new batch. Customers started receiving the following email “from” Tim Farmer, Costco’s vice president:
Our records show that you recently purchased the Kirkland Signature 4-piece Golf Balls,” the email reads. “Feedback we received since the item went on sale shows that some of the balls do not meet the high standards that are expected for the Kirkland Signature brand. Therefore, Costco is refunding your credit card for your purchase and the shipping costs (two separate credits). There is no need to return the item.
So Costco finally heard enough negative feedback from their customers and refunded anyone who ordered the balls. Furthermore, they just said, “keep the rest of them.” Sweet, perfect loaner balls for a round with Tommy. Beggars can’t be choosers, right? Anyway, good for Costco. Hopefully they release more of these gems with better quality soon.
