Craftsman Golf Yardage Book Cover
You may remember Craftsman Golf from our custom headcover review awhile back. Craftsman is a direct-to-consumer brand out of China that makes quality golf accessories at a more affordable price point. That headcover review vouched for the quality and value that Craftsman can provide. Well, their latest product to hit our testing block is the Craftsman Golf yardage book cover. For those of you that don’t always carry yardage books, this cover also works for a scorecard.
The Looks
Right now, the Craftsman Golf yardage book cover is only available in the USA theme pictured in this review. I think the American flag is a very iconic design, but is tough to execute tastefully. In my opinion, Craftsman did a great job making a patriotic design that’s tasteful but still bold. Of course, if the American theme isn’t for you, then you’ll have to wait a bit. Knowing Craftsman, I’m sure more designs and custom options are around the corner.
Design Quality
My ongoing experience with Craftsman Golf is that their quality far exceeds its price point compared to the rest of the market. The new Craftsman Golf yardage book cover is no exception. By using sturdy materials, a good design, and strong attention to detail, Craftsman delivers a finely-built cover. Having used “cheap” covers before (which subsequently cost quite a bit more), I’m very impressed with how structurally sound the Craftsman cover is. The outer materials are durable and can withstand a good beating in your bag and on the course.
On-Course Performance
If you make a good quality cover, then the on-course performance section is pretty easy. All the cover really needs to do is protect your scorecard and/or yardage book, and safely contain your pencil. The next most important thing is that it fits comfortably in your back pocket. Craftsman Golf succeeded in all of these areas. The Craftsman Golf yardage book cover is your standard “yardage book design” that fits comfortably in your back pocket. It also makes you look like a total pro, let’s be honest. The inside has elastic straps on both sides making it useful for holding both your yardage book AND your scorecard at the same time. Of course, not all scorecards are the same size so you may have to work around that, but that’s the same for any cover.
Let’s talk about the importance of the cover holding your pencil. I don’t know about the rest of you, but there’s nothing worse than keeping track of that damn pencil when you’re walking the course. If I keep it in my pocket, I inevitably stab my fingers. If I keep it in my ear – gone by the 3rd hole. Any card holder I use must have a pencil holder. The Craftsman yardage book cover indeed has a pencil holder. Note: the product page on the Craftsman website says the pencil holder is leather, but it is elastic. This is fine though as elastic will better accommodate different sized writing utensils.
Final Thoughts
At this point, I’m no longer surprised by the quality product that Craftsman Golf delivers. They create affordable options of all the accessories that golf nerds like us want, but at a price point for players not looking to spend a car payment on a scorecard holder. It’s understandable if the USA theme isn’t for you at this point in time, but I assure you that Craftsman Golf will have more yardage book cover options in the very near future. Either way, the Craftsman Golf yardage book cover is a great, affordable, value option that holds up out on the course.
