Edison Wedge
Hailing from Rockport, Texas, Edison Golf claims to have created the “people’s wedge” by throwing out traditional tour designs and focusing on what the common golfer truly needs. Packed with technology, the Edison wedge is said to provide increased forgiveness, spin and an improved ball flight. Edison even promises up to 31 more feet of distance and 18% more spin. Combine that with Edison’s Wedgefit and a 30 day money back guarantee, what’s not to like?
The Looks
Let’s get one thing straight, Edison wedges look fantastic. I received several compliments on the looks of these clubs. The minimalist design is super clean in hand and in the bag. A true pear shape wedge with copper paint fill and accents on the ferrule. At address, the first thing you’ll notice is a thicker top line than many other wedges. This is due to 25% more mass above the center-line impact point to maximize forgiveness and spin. Chairman and director of innovation, Terry Koehler, says the unique design of the Edison wedge produces a lower ball flight and more spin as a result.
How Does it Feel?
Not only do Edison wedges look great but they feel even better. 100% forged, the clubs feel firm on full shots and responsive on those touchy chips when you need to score. Arguably what I was most impressed with was the turf interaction. Here In the Chicagoland area, there are a variety of turf conditions, so traditional grinds don’t always perfectly fit the situation. What separates Edison wedges from the rest is their patented “Koehler Sole” which combines some of the best designs of all time into one, versatile sole.
Inspired and conceived on a trip in 1990 to the Old Course, Koehler introduced a high bounce angle in the front and low angle in the back to be able to handle a variety of conditions. Let me tell you, it works. The sole is great on tight greenside chips. I could confidently take full swings as well without worrying about digging trenches. In softer conditions, the leading edge sliced through turf effortlessly and produced those dollar-sized cuts of turf that we all love.
How Does it Sound?
The fully forged design of the Edison wedges give them a clean and pure sound. On short and half swing shots, the wedges have a firm click. Full shots are be met with a crisp thump as they pass through the turf. Overall, it’s a soft and muted tone that’s quite pleasant.
On-Course Performance
I found myself hitting and holding more greens with the Edison wedge. Thanks to the perimeter weighting, these wedges produce a much lower ball flight than you may be used to. Edison claims their wedges produce up to 31 more feet in distance than what’s in your bag now because of that lower flight. While it’s tough for me to confirm that precise of a distance difference, I can confirm the penetrating ball flight did add a few more yards to each of my previous stock yardages with my wedges.
With my old wedges, I rarely could spin the ball. These Edison wedges have been a game charger. Thanks to the “Progressive Grooves”, which are as aggressive as the USGA allows, and “X-Pattern” face texture (on clubs 57 degrees or higher) I felt I could hold greens on full shots and finally achieve the “one hop and stop” chip shot I’ve been practicing. According to Edison’s testing, there’s an 18% increase in spin from center hits and I felt it really showed in my results.
Final Thoughts – Edison Wedge
Why do so many of us use tour designed wedges? Edison Golf provides a reliable and forgiving wedge for the average golfer. You won’t see these wedges in the hands of tour players because they’re made for us – regular golfers. As previously mentioned, the 25% more mass above the top line gives golfers like myself, and probably most of you, more forgiveness as you stray from the center of the face. Let’s be honest, most golfers don’t have a penny-sized wear mark on their clubs like Tiger, it’s more of a silver dollar. With Edison wedges, that’s ok.
Edison says you should “fear no shot” and after several rounds and hours of testing, I can confirm bunker shots, tight chips and full swings are a worry of the past. These wedges provide a more forgiving and consistent shot than my previous wedges that were designed for the likes of professionals, not the average amateur which I certainly am. If you are too, Edison wedges may be an option worth exploring to improve your wedge game, too.

Good review. Would try/buy except for one problem – no LEFTy!
I know there is added cost to develop tooling for LH with relative lower volumes, but I can’t take a golf club manufacturer seriously when they only producing RH clubs.
I purchased the 56* a month or so ago and was so impressed, I now have a 48* to go with it. I’ve played almost every conceivable wedge and was previously playing the Ben Hogan Equalizer II wedges; however, I was ready to replace these with new ones when Ben Hogan closed it’s doors. I then found that Terry Kohler was involved in the BH wedge design so I decided to take a closer look at Edison wedges. Am I glad I did. These are definitely game changers for me and probably a lot of average golfers. I don’t struggle with tour wedges but these are just much easier to control and the dispersion is so much better for me.
John, I have been reading up on these wedges for the last 3 weeks. I’m on the edge of getting them. My handicap is dropping under 12 and my short game is solid but not spectacular. My gut says they would likely help and doubtfully hurt me. Thoughts?
Great write up and spot on with what I discovered having used these wedges (53 and 59 degrees) for the last three months. I’ve found the all the design improvements are outstanding, but the best IMO is the sole grind. I consider myself a decent short game/chipper (have to be since my GIR stat is not that great), this sole grind makes even delicate chip/pitch shots a joy. I’d recommend anyone who is looking for new wedges give these a try, doubt very much you’ll be using the 30 day money back guarantee.
I am playing TK 15 Hogan 53 and 58 wedges and they are very solid for sure. Now that Edison has made the component heads available to us hobbiest/clubmaker so we can put our favorite affordable graphite shaft. I will buy a a 48 degree Edison sooner than later. Glad to see someone designing wedges for the masses of us amateurs.
Ordered the 51 deg. wedge and love it. Even a few times that I’ve hit it a little thin and thinking it would be out the back of the green olnly to see it do a little dance and and stop pin high. Would love to order the 55 and 59 but will have to wait and see if the Canadian dollar moves up. Right now I’d be paying an extra 30 cents every dollar. That quickly adds up ) :
