Garsen Ultimate Putter Grip
Garsen has designed its most versatile grip to date. Classic and claw grip putters alike will appreciate the Ultimate grip. The Garsen Ultimate putter grip takes the innovation of side facing thumb position, and the biomechanical advantages from their popular Max grip, and puts it into a convenient and smaller package to fit a wider array of golfers and putting strokes.
The Looks
The Ultimate grip’s shape immediately caught my eye. Unlike traditional grips I’ve used in the past or the arm lock grip in my bag, this grip has three flat sides. Garsen says this allows your palms to face each other and have your wrists in a neutral place when you line up for a birdie attempt.
The ultimate grip branding is sleek and simple. A Garsen and Ultimate logo ordain the side and front of the grip. Nothing too flashy, but with colors of black, blue, red or lime green there is a choice to keep it conservative or bold. I went with the lime green, but to each their own. The detailing in the grip’s traction pattern was also a nice touch. The green and blue grips have small Gs throughout. Maybe it stands for Golf? Or Garesn? Hard to say, but probably the former.
How Does it Feel?
As I previously mentioned, the attention to detail in the traction of the Garsen Ultimate grip is great. I tested the grip on a cold and wet early season round, and I must say I was impressed. Despite soggy and numb hands I felt in control and immediate response from the club. In abnormally terrible conditions, I never questioned the Ultimate grip, so there is no doubt it will help you roll it true on those perfect days on the course.
The three flat faces helped the Ultimate to fit naturally into my hand. Whether I was trying out a traditional grip, left-hand low, or claw grip, the Ultimate provided superior support compared to grips I’ve used in the past. I felt much more stable from long range lag putts to those testy five footers.
On-Course Performance
The Garsen Ultimate grip’s versatility of the three-sided grip brought newfound confidence in my mallet putter that has long been gone leading a whole new flatstick replacement altogether. Replacing a lackluster grip from another big name competitor with the Ultimate was like a breath of fresh air. My distance control improved as I felt more stability in longer strokes. I think this grip provides a great option for players that are looking for a larger grip that still offers an excellent feel that is often lost in oversize grips. Typically for shorter range putts, I like to switch to a claw grip. I found the Ultimate to accommodate all styles nicely and allowed me to switch between preferred hand positions easily.
Final Thoughts – Garsen Ultimate Putter Grip
The Garsen Ultimate putter grip checks all the boxes for me. Outstanding versatility for a variety of putting styles, impressive stability, and solid looks. When I was first taking off my old grip from my putter I was unsure if the Ultimate would be the right fit. Just after two rounds, I am pleasantly surprised and even questioning putting my old putter back in the bag based on the improvement I’ve seen using this grip.
