LiveView Pro Golf Camera Review

LiveView Pro Golf Camera

A true Driving Range Hero like myself is always looking to tinker and “fix” things with their swing.  If that sounds like you, meet the LiveView Pro golf camera.  The LiveView Pro is the ultimate handheld tool for swing visualization and analysis.  The small, hand-held camera is both a real time swing mirror and recording device all in one portable package.  Whether you want to analyze your swing in real time, save a range session for later, or dissect a recording of your swing, the LiveView Pro has your back.

Features

The LiveView Pro golf camera might be a small device, but it has a good amount of features packed into it.  For one, it’s completely wireless.  It simply connects to an iPad or tablet via WiFi to view the video and runs off an internal rechargeable battery.  No cables, no cords.  The camera easily attaches to a bendable tripod ($19 if you don’t already have one), so you can position it on a bag rack at the range, or anywhere else you can think of.  Nowhere to use a stand?  It also has a clip on the back to easily attach to an alignment stick.  Drive that bad boy into the ground behind you, adjust the height, and you’re off.

The LiveView Pro works for both indoor and outdoor use.  Utilizing a larger lens to let more light in, video can easily be captured in either setting. That’s pretty clutch with our weather here in Chicago.  You can use the camera as a live swing mirror, or simply record your swings to view later.  You can also draw position and swing plane lines over your video.  The best part is, it can automatically capture and record your swing.  No running back and forth to your camera to start and stop recordings or fumbling with a remote.  The 60 frames-per-second recording also lets you view the video in slow motion so you can really examine your swing.  All the data automatically uploads right to your device too!  No need to wait for slow downloads or syncing.

Out of the Box

The setup for the LiveView Pro is as easy as can be.  Just download the app and go!  Once the app is downloaded and the camera is on, simply open your WiFi connections and connect to the hotspot created by the camera.  Once connected, you’re good to go!  Head back into the app and you’re ready to start swinging.

Snapping the camera on to an alignment stick is a breeze and screwing it onto a tri-pod is just as easy.  In terms of setup on the range, you will need a bit of space to get the right frame for your videos.  The LiveView does have a wide view lens, which is very helpful, but the view can still be a little tight.  You’re still going to want to set the camera up about five paces behind your ball.  That may seem like a larger distance, but any normal size range should be able to accommodate it.

Performance

Now, you might ask, “why is the LiveView Pro better than just using your phone?”  My answer?  The digital mirror function.  The live streaming video functions as a digital mirror so you can view your swing in real time without ever leaving your swing setup.  Simply look down at the tablet setup in front of you to view your swing from whatever angle you position the camera.  This eliminates the change in swing positioning that you’d normally get from moving your head to look at a swing mirror.  This is also particularly useful for down-the-line swings, which your typical swing mirror can’t show you.

You can easily draw swing plane and club position lines so it’s all able to be seen right in front of you on your device while you’re swinging.  The LiveView Pro will automatically capture and record your swing, then immediately play it back for you to review.  No remotes, no walking back and forth between swings.

The new wider lens works great for both outdoor and indoor use.  Whether you’re on the range, or simply doing some shadow swings in your living room, the LiveView Pro is going to be able to help.  The video quality is actually good both indoors and outdoors as well.  Note: according to LiveView Golf, your frame rate and quality will depend on the quality of your WiFi/connection so try to have a clean, uncrowded connection.

Final Thoughts – LiveView Pro Golf Camera

My initial thoughts on the LiveView Pro were centered around why it would be different than recording swings on my phone, but after using the device, it’s definitely much more effective.  The ability to see your swing in real time without leaving your setup, along with the drawing and auto-record functionality have really made the LiveView Pro a game changer for my practice sessions.  If you’re looking to understand your swing more, while optimizing your practice sessions, it’s worth taking a look at the LiveView Pro Golf Camera.  They can be purchased at the LiveView Golf site for $350.

  2. Very interesting. I would like to know what is the“ minimum distance “ required from address position to LiveViewPro Set up position, in order to view full swing? My purpose is to get Instant feedback from practice at home where the space is limited.

      Hi Linlee,

It depends on your height, but I’d say about 6 ft in order to get your full swing, including full body, full club, etc..

      Thanks for stopping by!

  3. How does it work out on the range with no WiFi? I have an iPad with no cellular connection so would it still work outside?

    • Tommy O'Connell

      Hi Jim –

Wifi is not needed for the LiveView Pro to work on the range. The camera itself actually puts off a wifi signal for your ipad/tablet to connect to. It’s not for internet, just solely a connection between the camera and your device. Once connected you can display the camera view on your device.

      Thanks for stopping in!

      Tommy
