MCA 9 Diamana GT

Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana GT Shaft Review

Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana GT

This summer, Mitsubishi Chemical released the third member of it’s 5th generation in the Diamana shaft line, the Diamana GT. It adds some new materials and manufacturing techniques, leaving us with a low spin, mid launch shaft that feels as good as it looks.

The Looks

Pure class.

The Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana GT is one of the most elegant and beautiful shafts you can find. Joining its siblings, the PD and the TB, Mitsubishi offers up another stunning silver ion plated shaft with the GT. MCA Golf says that this technique is more difficult and time consuming to produce than regular paint. It’s totally worth it, because it looks sick. The “Diamana” logos are sharp and brazenly shimmer in the light, and what I really like is that they kept the additional printing to a minimum. There’s a lot of other shafts out there that will print the names of some of the materials or go a little overboard with graphics, but this one’s perfect.

It’s an instant classic with modern, super sharp, striking good looks.

How Does it Feel?

Complex!  It’s like when you’re a whisky snob and you start detecting notes of cherry, charcoal, shoe leather, and honey in your favorite dram. Same deal here. The Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana GT has feelings of being light but crisp, stable but soft, and satisfyingly crunchy at impact. Every company out there makes shafts designed to do different things. There’s models for fast swingers that feel like you’re swinging a board and there’s the super high launchers that kick so hard at the bottom you may think the club head will fly off. This one, however, should appeal to the masses. It’s so smooth and satisfying, with just a little pop at the end.

A couple other things that I like are that you can get these in very light weight models (40g and 50g range) but still keep the same feel across the board. That’s super useful when you’re dialing in during your fitting. I also really like that it’s very lively at impact. I’ve paired it with my Rogue ST and the GT has really made it feel powerful. That’s really a confidence booster, nobody really wants to feel like they’re hitting marshmallows. At this point, it’s a toss up on which shaft combo makes it into the bag each round. Whichever is working best at the range before!!

I’ve been enamored with two golf shafts this season. The Tensei 1K Pro Orange and the Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana GT. With these, my handicap has dropped and my tee game has drastically improved. What I’ve liked about the 1k is the predictability of the ball flight. I cannot hit it too high and spinny. Sure, I can push it left and right, but it takes out some of the variables that I struggle with.

The Diamana GT has the same type of effect, however, it does so with a very different construction and profile. Let’s mention here that they use MR70 and boron fibers as well as their proprietary XLink resin in the build. That keeps it really stable and responsive whether I take a rip at it or try to hit a specific shot. I do find the Diamana GT to be more workable than most, but I rarely have the big misses that I’ve had previously. With the GT, I do find that I’m keeping in a mid/high trajectory most of the time, so it’s living up to what MCA designed it to do.

Final Thoughts – Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana GT

Mitsubishi Chemical released an updated Diamana in the GT that should fit a broad range of players in the mid flight, low spin category. It has classic, yet modern good looks that will for sure catch a stare or two on the tee box. Add to that, you get the legendary Diamana smoothness in this responsive and accurate golf shaft.
