My Friend Meurig Morgan Broke His Arm…He’s a Golf Instructor

I wouldn’t typically write a blog like this as it’s not directly personal experience, or necessarily someone our wider audience is aware of, but I just can’t get it out of my mind. You see, I met this funny Welsh fellow named Meurig Morgan 12 years ago when he was building and fitting clubs at the Schaumburg, IL Golf Galaxy where my other buddy worked. It all started with a set of TaylorMade ’09 TP irons. I got to know Meurig fairly well and he became my guy for all of my club work. Then one day, this guy and his family just up and leave, and move out to Oregon! That’s what ultimately got me started in learning how to build clubs and do club work myself. As he points out to me, he was heavily responsible for starting my nasty addiction.

After moving to the Pacific Northwest, Meurig decided he wanted to get back to doing something in golf, but in a different direction. One thing worth pointing out is that Meurig is REALLY good at golf. Like, very very very good at it. He’s also a super personable and relatable guy. Put all of this together and golf instruction was the perfect fit. So Meurig fired up Dragon Golf Instruction and pretty quickly put together quite the roster of students. Everything from beginners of all ages to NCAA winners. He now has quite the reputation as an instructor and a lot of loyal students. Safe to say, his instruction adventures have really taken off…

Meurig Broken Arm

Meurig Decides to Go Skiing…

So one day I wake up, open Facebook on my phone, and see the picture above with Meurig tagged in it. It was posted by his wife and she mentions that the family decided to take a quick “jaunt” to the mountains to get some skiing in. Welp, my buddy here must have french fried when he should have pizzad…and broke his arm. He broke it so high up in his arm, they can’t even cast it! (Awaiting further diagnosis.)

I let a little time go by so as to not rub salt in the wound, but I eventually reached out to him to wish him well and share broken arm experiences. Then I remind him that he’s a golf instructor, where it turns out, it’s less than ideal to have a broken arm. Fortunately, Meurig is the kind of guy that can’t be stopped and doesn’t let people down. While I know his students would fully understand if he needed a little extra time off, that’s just the Meurig Morgan way!

Anyway, here’s a pro tip from Meurig for all of you. If you’re a highly-regarded golf instructor, maybe avoid the slopes during golf season… Ok, that’s not a tip from Meurig, but it’s a tip from me. I genuinely feel awful for him and know it really does suck. But I also couldn’t resist busting his chops a bit about it. Hope you’re back in business and healed up real soon, bud! You’re a great dude.
