Nippon Shaft Wins in Phoenix & Bogota

CARLSBAD, Calif.  – The winner of the WM Phoenix Open used Nippon Shaft’s N.S.PRO MODUS³ Hybrid Tour X-flex shaft in his utility iron while the champion of the Astara Golf Championship in Bogota, Colombia used N.S.PRO MODUS³ Tour Prototype X-flex steel shafts in his irons.

The MODUS³ Hybrid shaft is Nippon Shaft’s patented combination of steel and graphite that delivers the solid feel, spin control and tight dispersion of a steel shaft with the easy launch, high trajectory and carry distance of graphite.

The WM Phoenix Open champion shot a 16-under par total with rounds of 68-71-62-67—268 at TPC Scottsdale. His final round included birdies on four of the final six holes in regulation to force a playoff with last year’s FedExCup champion and his fellow Ryder Cup star. He sealed the victory by sinking a 26-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole (No. 18) and earned a $1.476 million winner’s check.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old winner of the Astara Golf Championship shot 19-under par to record his first victory on the Korn Ferry Tour (KFT), shooting rounds of 67-65-66-66—264 at the Country Club de Bogota-Lagos. He earned $135,000. The Temple University product tied for second last week in Panama.

“Nippon Shaft congratulates the winners of the WM Phoenix Open and the Astara Golf Championship,” said Hiro Fukuda, sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft. “We are pleased that the Phoenix Open winner trusts the breakthrough hybrid technology Nippon Shaft has brought to the utility iron, which is increasingly popular both on professional tours and with everyday golfers. We also are proud of the Astara Golf Championship winner for his excellent play.”

More than 200 players on the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, European Tour and Korn Ferry Tour use Nippon Shaft’s MODUS³ series steel shafts to help gain their desired distance, accuracy, and trajectory.
