Carlsbad, Calif. – PUMA GOLF has created a limited-edition Lahaina Maui golf cap in which all proceeds will go directly to the Maui United Way. The Lahaina Maui Cap prominently features the Lahaina “L,” on the front panel, which is inspired by the “L,” that has been sitting on the hill above Lahainaluna High School since 1904.
In addition to the red Lahaina “L,” the design of the L Cap features several elements that were inspired by native culture. As Lahaina was once covered in breadfruit trees, which supplied critical shade to local inhabitants and helped feed the community, the cap features hand painted images of the once majestic flora. And because the fires themselves were in part due to the arid climate in the Lahaina area, which is known as the drier side of Maui, the breadfruit images were painted with cool and soothing watercolors. A third element to the design is the image of Kihawahine, a Hawaiian lizard deity significant to the lore of Lahaina, whose healing powers locals believe will be critical to the area’s recovery. The design was completed in partnership with Wailani Artates, a local Maui artist, and is totally unique to the product.
To contribute to Lahaina’s ongoing healing, PUMA GOLF athlete Rickie Fowler will wear and promote the Lahaina Maui Cap during THE SENTRY golf tournament at Kapalua and will also meet with locals to hand out signed caps and share positivity during the week. All proceeds will go towards rebuilding efforts underway in the community.
“We are honored to work with Rickie to help raise money for the Lahaina community,” said Grant Knudson, VP Product & Marketing, PUMA Golf. “Rickie has expressed his love for Maui and feels a connection here. We wanted to help by doing something to contribute positively to people affected by the fires.”
The limited-edition Lahaina Maui Cap will be available on pumagolf.com and at select retail locations. For those interested in donating directly to Maui United Way, please visit https://mauiunitedway.org/puma.
