PXG Xtreme Tour Golf Ball Review

PXG Xtreme Tour Golf Ball

Known for their innovative approach to golf equipment, PXG has introduced the Xtreme Tour golf ball, designed specifically for players with swing speeds below 95mph. Featuring a high-speed polybutadiene core and an lonomer layer, the PXG Xtreme Tour delivers strong distance while maintaining a softer feel. The ball’s low-spin design promotes a more penetrating flight, making it ideal for players seeking increased control and distance.

Feel 2

How Does it Feel?

Of the two PXG golf balls, the Xtreme Tour is the softer feeling option. I found it to feel plenty soft on touchier shots, but it still has enough “presence” with longer clubs. Compared to the rest of the golf ball market, I’d say it falls right in the middle from an overall feel perspective. It doesn’t have that squishy marshmallow sensation, but it definitely doesn’t have that firm, un-compressible feeling that slower swing speed dread. This alone may make the Xtreme Tour a good playable option for a fairly wide range of players.

Off the Tee

I feel like the difference in swing speed really shows the most off of the tee with the PXG Xtreme Tour golf ball. I swing the driver in that 110-115mph range depending on the day and how much I stretched before swinging a club. That might be a little quick for this ball. I didn’t really suffer in terms of distance, but my control wasn’t as good. I had much better control with the Xtreme Tour X counterpart. Unsurprisingly (at least in my opinion), my experience with the feel is reflective of that as well. That said, feel with a golf ball can be just as subjective as it is with a golf club, so others may find it to feel fine with a higher swing speed. It didn’t feel mushy at my speed. It just didn’t feel as strong off of the club. I feel that’s totally fair based on who this ball is geared toward. I’m just well aware that everyone feels through their own hands differently.

On the Approach

With my iron game, I found the PXG Xtreme Tour to perform well. I was able to really compress it and hold greens throughout pretty much all my irons and wedges. Again, feel will be a preference, but I didn’t have that same feel disparity between the two PXG balls that I mentioned above. While I think the Xtreme Tour can “play up” for a faster player, but I personally think lower swing speeds should stay in this ball for their approach game as designed. But again, there’s always the concept of subjective preferences and who am I to stand in the way of that?

Around the Green

Again, I’m very sure the response to the PXG Xtreme Tour around the greens will heavily depend on preferences. I found them to perform well with little chips and pitches. Plenty of bite and control to hit a full range of wedge shots. The cover is soft enough to get a good grab on the club face.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but if a ball feels right (or close enough), putting performance is pretty straightforward. I certainly don’t like a soft marshmallow for putting, but there’s nothing worse than clicky/rocky golf ball. Others might prefer a softer ball off the putter face. I found the Xtreme Tour to be right in the middle which made it consistently reliable for distance control.

Final Thoughts – PXG Xtreme Tour Golf Ball

Players with swing speeds below 95mph will ultimately be the best fit for the PXG Xtreme Tour golf ball. Its combination of softness, low spin, and penetrating flight make it a playable choice for players seeking increased distance and control at lower speeds. While it may not be the ideal option for players with significantly higher swing speeds, the Xtreme Tour is a versatile for a decent range of golfers.
