Sun Mountain Cirque Rain Suit
Follow me on this journey for a second. You and your friends have put a major golf trip on the books many months in advance. Schedules have been cleared. Childcare has been arranged. Significant amounts of money have been put down for all sorts of reservations. There are three days of non-stop golf on some SERIOUS courses officially booked! Well, as the trip gets closer, your weather app is telling you conditions aren’t looking all that great. But you can’t cancel now. You’re certainly not going to miss out on your chance to play the highly rated courses you’ve booked. That’s why any serious golfer needs a good rain suit like the Sun Mountain Cirque jackets and pants.
Made with a 20K waterproof rating and a 50K breathability rating, the Cirque is Sun Mountain’s top waterproof gear and is about as good as it gets. It’s lightweight, breathable, mobile, and just flat out comfortable. All of which makes the Cirque gear playable and friendly in the worst conditions you can expect on the course.
The Looks
While rain gear generally comes in all sorts of styles, I’m a fan of more subtle and dark colors. When the rain is really coming down and the course gets drenched, it’s real easy to get covered by all sorts of mud and sand. Darker colors will manage much better under these circumstances. As such, Sun Mountain offers the both the Cirque jacket and pants in a solid black or navy blue. The only branding you’ll find on the jacket is a Sun Mountain logo screen printed on the back of the neck. The pants have a logo on the back belt loop and a small logo by the deep leg zipper.
Comfort Level
Just to get right to it, the Sun Mountain Cirque rain suit might be the most comfortable I’ve worn. The materials are lightweight, and while the jacket and pants are both made up of three layers, they are quite breathable and comfortable. I’ve worn plenty of rain suits that ultimately feel like garbage bags that may keep the rain out, but make make you sweat on the inside so you’re soaked anyway. The Cirque gear will breathe on a warm day so you stay cool, but will also give you warmth if necessary during a cooler round.
Both the jacket and pants also have some convenient adjustability in them. The Cirque jacket contains a cinch at the waist so you can pull the bottom of the jacket tighter. This will help streamline the profile as well as keep unwanted air or moisture from entering through the bottom of the jacket. There are also velcro straps at the wrists to pull the opening tight and keep water from sneaking in there.
The legs of the Cirque pants have an internal snap system that allows you to shorten the hem by 2.5 inches. It’s also worth noting here that the pants are easy to quickly slip on over your shoes.
On-Course Performance
A rain suit is no good to you on the golf course if you can’t swing the club. The first thing I ALWAYS look for in my rain gear is if I can comfortably make a swing in it. The Sun Mountain Cirque jacket and pants are easily some of the most freeing waterproofs I’ve ever worn. Sun Mountain used a material that has an easy stretch to it, but the gear is also constructed in a way to move freely with your body. Making a good golf swing was easy and completely non-restrictive.
In terms of “waterproofness”, the Cirque gear more than gets the job done with its 20K waterproof rating. A steady drizzle is no match for this material. But what about a heavy downfall? Well, safe to say the Cirque gear gets the job done there as well:
The Cirque line utilized a “Durable Water Repellant” (DWR) coating which causes water to bead up and run off. Sun Mountain provides a two-year waterproof guarantee. Quick shout out also to my waterproof TRUE linkswear LUX Knits that also stayed dry in the testing above!
Final Thoughts – Sun Mountain Cirque Rain Suit
If you want a comfortable, high-performing rain suit that will certainly keep you dry, this is it. I genuinely love the Sun Mountain Cirque suit so far and couldn’t be happier to have made this upgrade. Of course, this rain suit will see plenty of use off the course as well. Keeping dry during the commute as we get back to heading into the office will be a big one for me. Whatever the reason, the Sun Mountain Cirque pants and jacket are a reliable option that’s well worth the investment.
