Tour Edge Exotics C723 Hybrid Review

Tour Edge Exotics C723 Hybrid

It’s no secret that I’m a major Tour Edge hybrid loyalist. For at least the past six seasons, a Tour Edge hybrid has securely held a place in my bag. Sometimes even multiple hybrids have held spots! Simply put, year after year, they’ve delivered the best feel and performance with my game. So, unsurprisingly to me, the new Tour Edge Exotics C723 hybrid is really good. The new version features adjustability and a compact design for better players seeking a hybrid with plenty of shot versatility. Diamond Face VFT and RyzerSole return to help deliver great feel, easy launch, and plenty of distance.

The Looks

Tour Edge has two hybrids in the Exotics family – the “competitive” spec C723 we’re discussing here and the “extreme distance” E723. As the “player” option, the Tour Edge Exotics C723 hybrid has a smaller, compact profile with a slight pear shape. This footprint is friendly to the eye of the player that’s really looking to be able to shape and flight their shots at will. The black on black on black color scheme with minimal white and red branding is super sleek as well. In my opinion, the C723 hybrid is perfectly understated and a tremendous looking player’s hybrid.

How Does it Feel?

The combination of Diamond Face VFT and RyzerSole makes the Tour Edge Exotics C723 hybrid feel powerful and smooth. Diamond Face VFT is essentially a series of diamond shapes of varying sizes behind the club face. These act as “mini trampolines” at impact which create a spring-like effect. Why does this matter? Well, that trampoline effect helps produce more speed which equals more distance. It also makes the club head more forgiving and a more generous sweet spot. Ultimately, the club face has a lot of jump with precise feedback so you know exactly where you hit the ball.

RyzerSole is a rail on the sole that extends from the face of the club to the trailing edge. This rail positions the center of gravity (CG) low in the head, but it also reduces friction with the ground. As a result, the C723 hybrid slips through the turf really cleanly and makes it easy to manipulate the club for different shot shapes. Additionally, there is an adjustable sole weight toward the front of the club. Should you want to alter the CG even more as well as add a little head weight to optimize your feel, additional weights are available separately through Tour Edge.

How Does it Sound?

Diamond Face VFT also plays a large role in the Tour Edge Exotics C723 hybrid’s sound. I’m not sure I’d call it muted, but I will say the C723 hybrid is pleasantly quiet. There’s a slight metallic note to it, but it really is a modest “pick” with a hint of “tap” at impact. Maybe we can call it a “tack”? In thicker rough, the “tap” comes through a little more and you might get a bit more “whoosh” in your sound. Reasonable divots don’t “thump” or “rip”, but sort of produce a clean “whish”.

On-Course Performance

For a hybrid geared toward the better player, the Tour Edge Exotics C723 hybrid is surprisingly forgiving. Again, Diamond Face VFT and RyzerSole really come into play here. The larger sweet spot allows you a little relief from the dead center of the face. Keep in mind that the C723 isn’t a high MOI club so there isn’t a ton of directional forgiveness. This is really the main reason I’d consider the C723 to be a “player’s hybrid”.

With a low CG from RyzerSole, it’s much easier to get the ball in the air. In my opinion, this makes the hybrid more versatile as it gives you an option for a low and soft landing at longer distances. But that CG is also forward in the sole so the spin will stay down and you can also achieve a more penetrating flight if necessary.

To that point of being able to achieve high and soft or lower and piercing flights, the C723 hybrid has impressive shot versatility. High and long approaches, maybe with a little fade, are easily achievable. Now, I’m not a big “mini fairway wood” hybrid guy, but there are times where I certainly appreciate having that distance and power in this portion of the bag. With the C723 hybrid, I feel like you can still achieve that type of power when needed, and fairly easily.

Remember, the C723 hybrid also features some key adjustability to really dial in your flight. As mentioned earlier, you can swap the sole weight out which could have some impact on your spin and launch angle. You can also add or remove up to 1.5º of loft. This made a really big difference for me in getting to an efficient stock flight that allowed me enough to room to work up or down as needed with ease.

Final Thoughts – Tour Edge Exotics C723 Hybrid

The Tour Edge Exotics C723 is a great option for better players seeking a variety of shotmaking capabilities in a hybrid. Once again, Diamond Face VFT and RyzerSole more than prove their benefit by delivering a powerful and smooth feel in the club with plenty of distance to go with it. If you’re looking for a hybrid that can help you wide range of shots whether off the tee or on long approaches, the C723 is definitely worth considering.
