Tour Edge Exotics X725 Irons
Tour Edge has released three new Exotics 725 irons featuring 3D Diamond Face, each designed to cater to the needs of different golfers. The Tour Edge Exotics X725 is a new super game improvement (SGI) option in the Exotics iron lineup featuring the highest Moment of Inertia (MOI) ever produced in an iron by Tour Edge, promising exceptional forgiveness on mishits. Based off of Tour Edge’s patented Iron-Wood technology, the X725 features an anti-slicing design guaranteed to make the game a little easier.
The Looks
As an SGI iron designed for maximum forgiveness, the Tour Edge Exotics X725 irons naturally feature a larger profile with a thicker topline, generous offset, and beefy soles. Despite these performance-enhancing elements, the X725 maintains a surprisingly sleek appearance at address. Unlike many other super game-improvement irons in the market that exhibit a…bulbous back, the X725’s profile remains relatively tight. The only time I even remotely noticed the thicker back of the club was when I really hooded a 5 iron to punch out from some trees. This design choice ensures that golfers can enjoy the benefits of increased forgiveness without sacrificing a clean, confidence-inspiring look.
The X725’s sleek design incorporates a multi-material carbon fiber/TPU badge on the back. This stylish addition not only contributes to the club’s aesthetics but also plays a role in the performance. The carbon fiber component adds stiffness to the shock absorbing process for a more pleasant sound and feel. Additionally, it reduces weight in this critical area, allowing the center of gravity (CG) to be positioned lower in the head for increased forgiveness and stability.
How Does it Feel?
I’m honestly not sure what I was expecting this club to feel like, but the Tour Edge Exotics X725 irons completely shattered my expectations. Tour Edge very clearly put a lot of care into making sure they got the feel right here. The VIBRCOR technology and 3D Diamond Face create a combination of soft feel and explosive power. 3D Diamond Face also expands the sweet spot making the clubface more forgiving in feel and performance.
The Sole Rail may be the biggest star of the X725 irons. By positioning weight low and deep, it dramatically increases the club’s MOI, leading to greater stability and a higher launch. This strategic weight distribution also improves turf interaction, allowing the club to glide smoothly through the grass. I was particularly impressed by how well the Sole Rail prevented digging trenches, even on heavier shots. Trust me, I ran into this on more than one occasion.
How Does it Sound?
Being a hollow-body, SGI iron with combinations of materials to dampen the sound, I expected the Tour Edge Exotics X725 iron to sound somewhat slappy. That’s pretty standard for this category of iron. Especially one of a “larger profile”. Instead, the X725 irons had a crisp “whap” across most of the face. The only time I noticed a real change in sound was on extreme toe and heel mishits where the tone just lost a little life.
The mighty Sole Rail creates a nice “whish” through the turf. Should you take a little deeper cut, the turf interaction sound takes on a little more of a “ripping” characteristic. I can’t express enough how clean this sole goes through the turf. You’d never guess how wide the sole is when you feel and hear it strike a golf ball.
On-Course Performance
“It’s the highest MOI iron we’ve ever produced, and the easiest to hit Exotics iron ever made.” This felt pretty accurate to me. While I haven’t hit every Exotics iron ever made, I can’t stress enough how easy I found it to hit the Tour Edge Exotics X725 irons. While generally geared toward a slower to mid-tempo swing speed audience, I think these irons will genuinely make the game easier for anyone seeking all the help they can get in terms of forgiveness and launch. The X725 is designed to do as much of the work for you that it can with slice prevention, getting the ball up in the air easily, and adding as much speed as possible for more distance.
The X725 irons feature a shallower face design, making it easier to swing through the ball with a faster tempo. Not dissimilar to the concept of a fairway wood’s lower profile. This, coupled with the low CG Sole Rail, promotes a higher launch angle and increased carry distance. The thicker sole design managing the turf interaction will reduce the risk of digging and allowing for a smoother, more efficient swing.
Final Thoughts – Tour Edge Exotics X725 Irons
The addition of the super game improvement X725 to the Tour Edge Exotics irons family is a testament to the brand’s commitment to innovation and performance. With game-enhancing features like VIBRCOR technology, 3D Diamond Face, and the not-so-secret weapon of the new Sole Rail, the X725 delivers a combination of forgiveness, distance, and feel that’s hard to match in this category. Whether you’re a high-handicap golfer seeking to improve your game or a seasoned player looking for all the help you can get, the X725 irons are worth considering. They offer a compelling blend of performance and aesthetics, making them a strong contender in the world of super game improvement irons.
