TPT Power Range Shafts
TPT Golf has established themselves as a premium option in the carbon golf shaft space. The brand’s expertise in manufacturing lightweight and durable carbon fibers in industries like aerospace and Formula 1 has transitioned into a refined approach in the golf industry. Through an automated manufacturing process, TPT Golf creates a spine-less shaft for a smoother feel and stronger durability. Their latest offering of shafts, the TPT Power Range, is available in specific models for driver, fairway wood, and hybrid. The idea is that all three shafts will offer one consistent feel across all of your metalwoods.
Per usual with TPT shafts, the Power Range consists of a wide range of flexes measured by numbers and Hi or Lo versions. These waters can be tricky to navigate at this level of detail, so I will always encourage you to get fit first for a TPT shaft.
How Do They Feel?
Through a “one start; one stop” winding process, TPT Golf builds their shafts by essentially continuously wrapping one large sheet of thin carbon fiber. There will be some specific differences based on weight, flex, torque, etc, but I found there were some consistencies across all three Power Range shafts. First, all three shafts had a very smooth and clean feeling. The bend profile is fairly gradual so that helps contribute to the shafts’ general smooth feeling.
Next, while all three shafts felt smooth, they had a tight and controlled profile that held up to my swing. This is where the fitting piece of the process will be crucial. The wide range of shafts allows for a lot of fine tuning to not just fit your performance, but to also get the feel dialed in for your hands.
TPT Power Range Hybrid Shaft Performance
While likely to gain the least attention in the group, I actually think the hybrid is the standout of the TPT Power Range of shafts. It’s really a true “Goldilocks” option in my mind. I was able to easily flight the ball high in the air for soft landings, but could just as easily hit a tight piercing shot for fighting the wind or to squeak out a few extra yards. The profile was tight without feeling boardy and had just enough action in it to give a little life to the shaft.
I do feel like the hybrid shaft is one of the most complicated components in all of golf equipment. How you prefer to play a hybrid in your game really makes a huge difference in your shaft selection. For players that prefer versatility with strong control in their hybrid game, the TPT Power Range delivers.
TPT Power Range Fairway Shaft Performance
Club Speed | Ball Speed | Launch Angle | Spin | Carry (Yds) | Total (Yds) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
110.4 | 160.1 | 12º | 2818 | 259.1 | 266.7 |
Much like a hybrid shaft, picking the right fairway wood shaft comes down to how you play the club. And much like the TPT Power Range hybrid shaft, the fairway wood shaft has a very “Goldilocks” profile. It has enough stability to control it, but is soft enough to easily launch in the air. The TPT Power Range fairway shaft is far from boardy and has an easy release. I felt like all I had to do was take a smooth swing and the club would handle the rest. As you can see from the numbers above, the Power Range made for a plenty serviceable fairway wood.
However, now that I know the shaft a bit better, I think with a thorough fitting, I’d like to explore tipping the shaft to find a little more of a piercing flight and firmer tip section. As mentioned previously, the extensive options of flexes and profiles would allow a fitter to help me find that optimal flight for me. I do believe, knowing my game, that the 16 Lo option would likely be too low for me so tipping the mid-launch Hi would make the most sense. Again, make sure you get fit!
TPT Power Range Driver Shaft Performance
Club Speed | Ball Speed | Launch Angle | Spin | Carry (Yds) | Total (Yds) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
114.6 | 170.8 | 12.2º | 2381 | 281.8 | 307.2 |
The TPT Power Range driver shaft was smooth and comfortably mid-launching. Though this shaft has a 3.5 torque (my gamer is 2.9), it still felt stable and my control was consistent. In other words, my aggressive swing was still able to maintain a relatively tight dispersion. My dispersion was tighter with the lower-torque TPT Nitro shaft, but I had an easier time getting carry yardage out of the Power Range. There’s a noticeable energy load with a fairly easy release, and it’s consistent from swing to swing.
Final Thoughts – TPT Power Range Shafts
TPT Golf delivered a family of shafts in the Power Range that will be friendly to a wide array of players. The “one start; one stop” winding process gives these shafts a smooth feel and consistent performance. Furthermore, the characteristics of the Power Range are optimized to give you the same feel and performance in all of your metalwoods. But again, I really need to reiterate the value of making sure you get properly fit for these shafts. TPT offers a wide range of options to finely tune each shaft for how you swing each club. These shafts certainly aren’t cheap, so make sure you really get the most out of your premium investment.
