Uther Golf Balls
I have to admit, reviewing a golf ball is…weird. I can give you data from a Trackman and tell you how much a ball spins or how far it flies, all those kinds of things, but that’s not always why people choose their golf ball. And, in some cases, is not all the helpful considering I might be using a driver, iron, wedge, or putter that you do not have. So let me tell you a little bit about my experience with the newest Uther golf balls.
The fact is golfers play their golf ball for a litany of reasons. Performance certainly plays a role for some of us, but there are other factors involved. Price comes into play for some people, feel comes into play for others, and other golfers just want to play the ball that their favorite pro plays.
Uther Supply has a few different offerings when it comes to their golf balls. There is the AIRx, which is your lower-priced, two-piece ball with a surlyn cover, the Tour Icon, a three-piece ball with a surlyn cover, the Pro Icon and Pro Soft Icon, both a three-piece ball with a urethane cover, and finally the Pro4 Icon, which is their four-piece ball also with a urethane cover. I’ll be covering the Pro4 Icon and Pro Icon in this review.
Now to start, these are not necessarily discount golf balls by Uther Golf. These are $40 a dozen. They are not supposed to be cheap from a manufacturing and performance perspective. These should be good golf balls, and I can tell you they are, in fact, good golf balls.
The Looks
Now, there are a lot of good golf balls out on the market for this price point, but the differentiator, in my opinion, is the Icon part and the designs on the Uther golf balls. Which is what really differentiates Uther Supply, in general.
Uther’s towels, golf gloves, and golf polos are all designed with a little bit of swag and fun in mind. Uther Supply has simply extended those designs into their golf balls.
On-Course Performance
I’ve played both the Uther Pro Icon and Pro4 Icon multiple rounds and I can tell you personally I prefer the four-piece (Pro4 Icon) a little bit more than the three-piece (Pro Icon) compared to what I would call my “gamer” golf ball.
I can also tell you that I have not seen any real difference as far as distance off the tee, feel around the greens, or with the putter. Overall, Uther golf balls golf balls basically do what you would expect them to do considering their construction and price point. It’s a good golf ball.
Also, as someone who’s been playing in the fall with these golf balls, I can tell you there is some true value in being able to spot a golf ball with a bright green four-leaf clover on it.
Otherwise, the golf ball is the golf ball. We know what a four-piece golf ball is meant to do, we know what a three-piece golf ball is meant to do and both the Pro Icon and Pro4 Icon do all of those things. As I mentioned earlier, both the Pro Icon and Pro4 Icon golf balls have urethane covers similar to other high-end golf balls. So, they can take a bit of a beating now and then if you take one off a tree, a cart path, or get aggressive with a wedge.
Final Thoughts – Uther Golf Balls
If you are playing a Uther golf balls, I can pretty much guarantee no one is going to confuse your golf ball for theirs. They offer all kinds of different icon designs. In this case, mine was the shamrock. They also have a set of four different icons within a box of 12 balls, three balls each with a golf cart, a golfer, a flag, and a golf bag. It really does allow your golf ball to stand out and differentiate itself from the rest.
And, it’s really just fun.
That’s kind of what Uther Supply’s entire mantra is, injecting something a little different, and a little more fun into their products while still maintaining the high quality, functionality, and performance of their stuff.
That’s what has always impressed me about everything Uther Supply does. These days, anyone can make something that looks cool and that looks unique, but you and I know oftentimes companies will sacrifice quality.
At the end of the day, I know what I am getting when I buy something from Uther Supply. Performance and quality with a little bit of fun thrown in there, too.
Love these balls. I had a stork on mine and found it very easy to identify. I never got my ball picked by mistake. I liked the feel of it and it performed beautifully. Looking to buy more this year.
Found Uther ball during my round, liked the logo, and started playing the ball. Performance appeared good, and I liked the unique markers. Problem is, I HATE LOSING THESE BALLS! More so then any other. When I do so, I feel like when I received Pro Vs with my name on it. Losing them all, wonder how many had a laugh on me. Regardless, with a few dozen Pro 4 and Icon sitting here in the Man Cave, it’s now my ball of choice, and I, unpaid promoter of the brand!
I got my first hole-in- one with the Shamrock Uther.!!! ironically day after the Boston Celtics won the championship!!! Will be my go to on par 3s.. love them!
