2020 Bridgestone Tour B RX Golf Ball Review

2020 Bridgestone Tour B RX

The 2020 Bridgestone Tour B RX ball is designed for players with swing speeds under 105 looking for more distance and better control. Bridgestone’s new REACTIV cover achieves this goal by reducing side spin and compressing the ball based on how hard the ball is struck. Sneak peak, the newest Tour B RX is a strong golf ball.

How Does it Feel?

Generally speaking, the 2020 Bridgestone Tour B RX golf ball has a fairly solid feel. Bridgestone’s REACTIV cover serves as an “impact modifier”. What this means is that cover works like a shock absorber for shorter shots which creates more spin. On “higher impact” shots like long irons and woods, the cover “maintains more resilience” for a more solid feel. As such, from putter to mid-ish irons, the Tour B RX feels nice and soft. However, the Tour B RX feels firm and strong at longer distances.

Off the Tee

Like its faster-swing-speed big brother, the Tour B X, the latest Bridgestone Tour B RX utilizes a Gradational Core. This core increases ball speed (think more pop per mph of club speed) and reduces side spin for more accuracy. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not going to help you when you swipe an open face through the ball for a monster slice.  But that’s on you…not the ball. Trust me, I know. I live that nightmare regularly. Make a good swing, and the ball pops off the face and keeps a tight line.

The use of a Dual Dimple technology is designed to create less drag for better aerodynamics and technology. In theory, this means your launch, control, and roll out will be optimal in longer irons. While I didn’t have access to test this out thoroughly with high-tech tools and wind tunnels, I will say that the launch was powerful and the roll out was plenty adequate. The 2020 Tour B RX is a fine ball off the tee for more moderate swing speeds. Dare I say, it’s a great distance ball at this level. In fact, I would say it’s rather difficult to beat.

On the Approach

I would echo a lot of the sentiments I said in my previous Tour B X review. The 2020 Bridgestone Tour B RX was unexpectedly strong on approach shots given how firm and strong it was off the tee. The REACTIV cover is made of a “smart urethane” that reacts to the level of impact at which you strike the ball. Meaning your smoother iron swing and reduced speed will result in more spin to hold greens. The aforementioned Gradational Core will still give you the control you’re looking for when you’re trying to shoot darts into the green. In fact, you may even forget that the Tour B RX is designed as more of a distance ball.

Around the Green

I would put the 2020 Bridgestone Tour B RX golf ball at a nice “medium” around the green, quite similar to the Tour B X. That said, the Tour B RX is a little softer than the Tour B X which makes sense considering the designs are for different swing speeds. Of course, wedge and putter swing speeds between the two different players won’t really differ much so the Tour B RX comes out feeling a little softer. Regardless, the ball spins at a nice medium rate with wedge shots. Zippers of the ball won’t have any issues here. The response off of the putter is also a more medium with the right amount of click.

Final Thoughts – 2020 Bridgestone Tour B RX

If you’re a player with a more moderate swing speed and you’re looking for premium performance, definitely consider trying the 2020 Bridgestone Tour B RX. It’s a great distance ball with plenty of control and spin where you need it. The “smart” REACTIV cover gives you the spin and compression you need into and around the greens. Off of the tee, the ball compresses less and gets more distance through the air and on the ground. Less side spin from the Gradational Core and better flight from the Dual Dimple tech leaves you with better accuracy.  Overall, the 2020 Tour B RX is a great all-around golf ball that can literally do everything.

  1. Excellent write-up! I took the 3-minute golf ball fitting on Bridgestone.com out of boredom — 60 y/o, 230y drives, typically shoots between 79-85, and the Tour B RX popped-up. On a whim, got permission from the wife for the golf store to get me a doz. Played it for the first time yesterday and here’s what I discovered. This ball ROLLS FOREVER with a straight and perfect trajectory! Approach wedge shots checked up rather quickly. I ended up with a 77 with the same ball. And at the end of the round, I couldn’t tell the difference between that ball and the other two still in the sleeve!! No blemish, cuts, or wear!!
