BIG MAX Dry Lite Hybrid Golf Bag Review 3

BIG MAX Dry Lite Hybrid Golf Bag Review

BIG MAX Dry Lite Hybrid Golf Bag

Over the past few years, BIG MAX has really fine tuned their product line to have a diverse family of products that not only offers the right bag or push cart for any player, but they also have really dialed in making sure their products compliment each other perfectly. The BIG Max Dry Lite Hybrid stand bag might be their best of example of this yet. With a 14-way divider system and new hybrid stand mechanism, the Dry Lite Hybrid fits perfectly with any BIG MAX push cart. I encourage push cart golfers to read this review to the end.

The Looks

BIG MAX currently offers the Dry Lite Hybrid in five different colorways. Rather than list them all out, check out the product page here. Tip of the cap to BIG MAX, I think this bag is really good looking with the right balance of bold character and practical all-business looks. The branding is reasonable in making statement without looking like an “unpaid-for” billboard.

From a “profile” perspective, yes, the Dry Lite Hybrid is a little on the larger side. That’s sort of by design as this bag is not necessarily designed to be a carry bag, but rather a full-service bag on a cart or push cart. The 14-way dividers will naturally bulk the bag up a little bit, but by no means would I call the bag huge. It’s also an inch taller, but we’ll cover that later.

Design & Features 9

Design & Features

The Dry Lite Hybrid’s aforementioned 14-way divider system makes pulling and replacing clubs smooth and helps avoid club chatter as you move along. This is one of the key areas where BIG MAX made the bag integrate with their push carts better. BIG MAX also extended the bag by a full inch so now it fits better in their push carts’ brackets while also making it easier to access each club slot.

Hybrid Stand System 21

BIG MAX introduced what they call a hybrid stand system. This new stand design hides the entire stand mechanism to create a flatter base (or floor) that will fit better both in the back of a golf cart and as well as on the base of a push cart. The stand mechanism is sturdy on the ground as well as more stable on a push cart so it doesn’t wobble around.

Dry Lite Hybrid 16

BIG MAX made the Dry Lite Hybrid mostly waterproof. The bag is made of waterproof materials  and zipper while the seams are water repellent. This will keep the bag’s contents dry in most damp conditions but you’ll want something fully waterproof if you’re concerned about torrential downpours, which BIG MAX also offers. The valuables pocket on the side is fully waterproof to protect key essentials like your phone and key fobs in wet conditions.

Oh, and lest I forget the most important feature. BIG MAX added a nice cooler pocket on the side. Not much to say other than it kept my beverages cold during the obnoxiously hot summer rounds we’ve had here in Chicago.

Performance 20

On-Course Performance

First, let’s start by discussing the performance using this bag with a push cart. The BIG MAX Dry Lite Hybrid stand bag is designed to be a “hybrid” between a stand bag and a cart bag. In this case, the bag is designed to be easily carried but also a perfect fit for a push cart. When put on a push cart, the Dry Lite Hybrid fits nice and square in the brackets due to its slick hybrid stand mechanism. Accessing all 14 clubs is a breeze due to the taller bag and 14 dividers. Trust me, that’s a big deal when using a push cart. Factor in the additional pockets, especially the full-size cooler pocket, and you can comfortably store everything you need for a full day on the course while easily pushing your bag around.

In terms of carrying the Dry Lite Hybrid, you have to be a little careful. With the bag totally empty, the weight comes in at a little over four pounds. By itself, that isn’t that heavy at all. Yes, the profile of the bag is a little larger, but it doesn’t weigh a lot. That said, the amount of storage makes it easy to over pack and add weight quickly. The Air Channel straps and hip pad will certainly make the bag more comfortable, but if you want this to be a walker, just be careful on overfilling. The bag is comfortable as long as the weight is appropriate. The stand is sturdy and reliable on the course for setting down at each shot.

Final Thoughts 7

Final Thoughts – BIG MAX Dry Lite Hybrid Golf Bag

In my opinion, the BIG MAX Dry Lite Hybrid stand bag is the ultimate push cart golf bag. It still has a stand and dual straps for convenience and comfort when necessary. There’s enough space in the bag to carry everything you need and then some. The taller profile in addition to the 14-way divider make dealing with your clubs extremely smooth. Maybe most importantly, we have BIG MAX’s hybrid stand system. This system keeps the bag perfectly flat and stable on every push cart I’ve tried so far, which is a bigger deal than you might realize. Pair the BIG MAX Dry Lite Hybrid bag with any push cart and you have one solid mobile golf command unit for the walking golfer.
