Kentwool SensationWool Socks Review (featuring Nufabrx)

Kentwool SensationWool Socks

One of the side effects of golfing is often foot pain from long walks and so much time on your feet.  If you say you haven’t experienced that, I don’t believe you.  Heck, I’ve had barking dogs from just riding a cart for 18 holes!  Well the new Kentwool SensationWool socks are here to help relieve that foot pain.  Kentwool’s new SensationWool socks take their signature Merino wool socks and add Nufrabx nylon to help soothe your feet.

Design

At first glance, the Kentwool SensationWool socks look like another pair of Kentwool Tour Profile socks that have been highly touted in the golf industry for years.  The difference is that the new SensationWool has Nufabrx nylon woven into it.  What is Nufabrx and what does it do for you?  Nufabrx is infused with capsaicin and a synthetic cooling agent that is activated with friction as you walk.  While the SensationWool can soothe throughout an entire wear, the soothing properties will be most active during activity.  Kentwool suggests wearing the SensationWool during your activity for best results.  In fact, the effects of the SensationWool will be best realized with repeated and extended active wear.  That said, the soothing properties do no last forever.  We’ll address that later.

Comfort & Fit

There’s a reason I’ve switched over to Kentwool socks exclusively.  I genuinely find them to be the most comfortable socks I’ve ever worn.  Kentwool uses a Merino wool blend that manages temperature based on the environment.  For instance, on hot days, Merino will breathe and your feet will stay relatively cool.  On cold days, the Merino will hold heat and keep your feet warm.  SensationWool adds the element of Nufabrx which has a cooling property to it.  The end result is a blend of warming and cooling that, simply put, just feels great on your feet.  Think of it like your socks have an extremely mild form of IcyHot to your sore feet.  The sensation is refreshing and soothing.

In regards to fit, the Kentwool SensationWool is currently only available in the Tour Profile cut.  This cut is a higher ankle cut that works great in protecting your ankle from that nasty Achilles blister which often comes with a pair of golf shoes.  I will prepare you up front – Kentwool socks do have a thicker fit.  That said, I have never found them cumbersome or uncomfortable in my shoes.  Just don’t expect them to be paper thin like some cheap “performance” sock.  Additionally, Kentwool socks come in three sizes – medium, large, and extra large.  The sizing is based on your shoe size and pretty straightforward.  My advice is that if you’re on the border for sizes, then you should size up since these socks are a wool blend and *can shrink a little.

*If they shrink at all, they are very easy to stretch back out.

Performance

From a general sock performance, the Kentwool SensationWool socks are fantastic.  They are extremely comfortable and serve me well both on and off the course.  It’s not hyperbole when I tell you that my sock drawer has become completely Kentwool except for two pairs.  As long as you get the right size and cut, Kentwool socks are strong and resilient.  With consistent active use, a pair of Kentwools will last you 18 months to two years from my experience.

But you didn’t come here to talk about regular sock performance.  You want to know about the SensationWool’s therapeutic powers.  To quote Kentwool, “SensationWool provides temporary relief of foot-related aches and pains of muscles and joints associated with strains, sprains, arthritis, bruises, cramps, stiffness and soreness.”  It’s important to establish the expectation that SensationWool isn’t going to cure your pain but rather provide temporary relief during your activity.  My experience was that the soothing coolness felt great on a sore foot and lasted the duration of the wear.  Though the SensationWool isn’t permanently healing anything, it certainly made my feet feel better and more comfortable.

Final Thoughts

If you put a premium on foot comfort while you golf, and you should, the Kentwool SensationWool sock is a no brainer.  So far, I love these socks.  Simple as that.  They are comfortable, fit well, and durable.

I wanted to add a couple of key notes from the Kentwool FAQ section about the SensationWool socks that I feel are worth knowing.

  • Per lab testing, the infused ingredients in the SensationWool will last up to 30 wash cycles. After the active ingredients have dissipated, you will have a perfectly wonderful Tour Profile sock to continue to enjoy. You can expect to total life of 15-18 months on this sock with standard wear.
  • Exactly what is felt will vary person to person. Generally speaking, you will not feel a sensation instantly. The sensation generated by the ingredients will build over time. The level of sensation and time to feeling the sensation will vary based on your unique body chemistry.
  • The ingredients used in the SensationWool sock are cosmetic-grade ingredients, safe for regular wear.
