Good Walk Coffee Company
Many golfers’ first move before an early morning round is to make sure they get a nice cup of coffee in them to get ready to go. It’s a tale as old as time. One big golf and coffee enthusiast took that realization, turned it into an idea, and launched a brand to give golfers a coffee connected to their lifestyle. That person was Chris Mellow, Founder and CEO of Good Walk Coffee Company. Chris’s love for golf came at an early age from playing a local muni with his grandfather. “We would pack two or three clubs that he had cut down for me into a golf cart with his clubs and a tall cup of coffee and set off to play.”
So other than drinking coffee before, during, or after a round, how are golf and coffee connected? Good Walk Coffee believes that the disciplines and concepts of golf can serve as guiding principles to run their business. Their first priority is to make sure they are taking care of the planet much like you would responsibly take care of your golf courses. As such, they use materials and processes designed to have minimal impact on the planet. They also work with companies that are Fair Trade Certified. Where they can’t, they work directly with smaller companies that can’t afford to go through the costly certification process.
The Coffee
Good Walk Coffee Company ultimately aims to deliver a high quality coffee bean for the perfect cup of coffee. As of writing this, Good Walk Coffee offers three different flavors – Dew Sweeper Organic French Roast, Breakfast Ball Colombia Medium Roast, and Clubhouse South America Dark Roast. All three flavors are available in either whole bean or a drip grind.
Rather than explaining Good Walk Coffee’s roasting process, I’ll borrow it directly from their site. “Our beans are expertly roasted by award-winning facilities in Seattle, WA and Oakland, CA. A final nitrogen flush before being packed and sealed in lined, valved packaging keeps our coffees amazingly fresh until the moment you open the bag.”
Some of the performance benefits Good Walk Coffee highlights also could benefit your golf game. Coffee is known to give you an energy boost, have anti-inflammatory benefits, and to help sharpen your focus. A higher quality coffee will sustain those benefits longer and feel less invasive to your body.
Admittedly, I’m not a coffee snob. Like anything involving taste and flavor, everyone will have different preferences and their own unique palate. What I can say is that the Breakfast Ball coffee we had in our house was clearly a quality product. The grapefruit flavor was present, but not overbearing and gave a nice bright taste rather than a more bitter profile.
Final Thoughts – Good Walk Coffee Company
A good cup of coffee is a good cup of coffee. Simple as that. Just so happens that the people at Good Walk Coffee Company are big golf nuts looking to share the benefits of a quality coffee with their fellow golfers. Whether you golf or not, Good Walk Coffee’s three options are better than the usual stuff you get at your major grocery stores or large-scale coffee shops. There are a variety of purchasing options on their website as well as some additional golf gear should you choose to go all in on the brand.
