Tiger vs Phil – Will You Be Watching?

So there’s been a ton of back on forth on Twitter in regards to this “matchup” between Phil and Tiger the day after Thanksgiving.  Basically, the debate is whether or not people are going to be watching.  Essentially people have to pay $20 to watch a pay-per-view of Tiger and Phil playing an exhibition match at Shadow Creek, with no gallery, and a $9 million purse that is coming from sponsors, not out of their own pockets.

Most of the people claiming they won’t watch are saying they won’t pay $20 to watch two players past their prime duke it out.  I get it.  You don’t want to spend the cash to watch two guys play a seemingly meaningless exhibition, and Phil is washed up at this point anyways.  I admit, I was originally in the camp of “eh, I don’t know if this thing is worth $20.”  But let’s not kid ourselves here, I’m going to be watching without a doubt.

While troves of individuals will be storming the stores on Black Friday to buy anything they can get their mitts on a mere few hours after giving thanks for everything they currently have in their lives, I will be stationed on my couch watching this thing go down.  I’m not sure if it’s the nostalgia of watching the two best golfers of my younger years duke it out in a matchup I’ve always dreamed of, or the fact that I just can’t get enough golf.  I’m willing to bet that most people in the “I’m not paying” camp will be all over Twitter looking for a free stream.  I don’t blame them, but just making the point that people actually do want to watch this thing.

Do I wish these two were shelling out their own cash for prize? Absolutely.  It’d be so much better having to watch Phil write Big Cat a check for $9 million at the end of this thing.  But regardless of it all, I’ll be recovering from my turkey hangover watching two of the best to have ever played the game go head-to-head for an absurd amount of money.  Sounds like my kind of Friday.

PS – I really hope Phil wears the long sleeve dress shirt for this thing.
