XXIO Prime Driver Review

XXIO Prime Driver

Not all golfers looking to invest in their game have the same premium equipment needs which tend to be geared toward higher-skilled players with fast swings and elite ball striking skills. The new XXIO Prime driver is meant to be a premium investment for seasoned, moderate swing speed golfers a straighter, longer ball flight. Though it may carry a hefty price tag, it’s a high quality golf club for the mortal golfer.

The Looks

With XXIO charging a higher price for their new Prime driver, they definitely gave it the looks to match the price tag. The sleek black club head with gold accents just looks downright classy. If I walked into a store to see a lineup of drivers, I’d say “boy that one looks premium”. The gold and black go together flawlessly. In terms of shape and design, the XXIO Prime offers a more traditional, no nonsense head with a metallic black finish and a simple gold alignment aid. The silver club face does give it a nice touch, and makes the face “pop”.

How Does it Feel?

The XXIO Prime driver advertises a lightweight feel, and boy does it deliver. The club feels light as a feather in your hands, making it feel like you can really send the ball down the fairway, even if you’re not typically a fast swinger. The counter weight design, lightweight titanium face, and premium materials allow XXIO to cut the overall weight of the club so much. In terms of contact, the Rebound Frame and Flat Cup Face of the driver make it feel like the ball is trampolining or exploding at impact. Again, it’s geared towards distance, and the feel definitely lines up to this.

How Does it Sound?

The combination of the lightweight materials and increased swing speed lead to a pretty high pitched sound from the XXIO Prime driver. Well struck shots have a nice, loud “crack” to them, but not that cheap sounding aluminum sound. Dare I say the sound even sounds quality? Again, it all goes back to the distance and lightweight club messaging. The club just sounds like you’ve made a solid, fast impact that’s going to give you a ton of distance. Whether or not you like the higher pitched sound, is up to you.

Like previous XXIO driver reviews, I enlisted the help of a family friend who is a fairly frequent golfer, but has more moderate speed and could benefit from some additional distance for testing the XXIO Prime driver. The above numbers and feedback below are from his testing.

For one, he agreed that the club felt extremely lightweight. He mentioned multiple times that the club just felt easy to swing, and it showed in his increase of swing speed (by about 4 mph). With that, he picked up about 3 mph of ball speed and 12 yards of carry. He also mentioned it was very easy to get the ball in the air. With his slower swing speed and old driver, lower ball flights that even resulted in ground balls at times weren’t an uncommon occurrence. With the XXIO Prime, it was easy to lift the ball and his carry was much better than before. Overall, he saw big distance gains not only from the increased swing speed, carry, etc, but also found himself much more consistent with his drives.

That brings up his next point. With his old, early 2000s driver, the forgiveness wasn’t there at all. With the XXIO Prime, he didn’t need to be as consistent to still get down the fairway, which was a huge confidence booster for him. Overall he was thrilled to try the new XXIO Prime Driver, and needless to say, it’s now permanently cemented in his bag.

Final Thoughts – XXIO Prime Driver

While the XXIO Prime driver does carry a higher price tag, it can also really help your game if you’re a decent player who could use some more swing speed. It’s a lightweight driver made of premium materials with exceptional feel and performance. If your game is a good match for XXIO’s target audience and you’re willing to invest in a more expensive driver that will last for years to come, the new XXIO Prime driver is definitely worth it.
