ASICS Gel-Ace Pro M Standard Shoe Review

Srixon ASICS Gel-Ace Pro M Standard

Ever since Srixon Golf partnered with ASICS to produce golf shoes, fans have been asking for access to the same shoe Srixon Staffer Hideki Matsuyama wears on the course. Well, they’re finally here with the new ASICS Gel-Ace Pro M Standard golf shoe. Let’s check it out!

The Looks

Previous models in the Srixon/ASICS golf shoe lineup had a blend of classic ASICS running shoes, but with golf functionality. The new ASICS Gel-Ace Pro M Standard, however, brings more of a contemporary golf shoe look with a little more modern flair. The exterior of the shoe has that classic, all leather golf look, with the classic ASICS “weave” patterning on the sides. A metallic-looking plastic arch gives the Gel-Ace Pro M a little bit more of a modern touch.

Comfort Level

There’s going to be no surprise here when I say that the Srixon ASICS Gel-Ace Pro M have every bit of comfort you’ve come to expect from an ASICS shoe (golf or not). The Gel-Ace Pro M features the new ultralight FlyteFoam sole for ultimate comfort. On top of that, the ASICS Gel in the heel gives the shoe an extremely soft, cushy feeling for your feet while still maintaining a fairly light weight. The ankle support also feels great, and the padding design taken from ASICS running shoes really helps with ankle comfort.

On-Course Performance

While a shoe absolutely needs to be comfortable for me, they also need to feel stable and perform on the course. The new Srixon ASICS Gel-Ace Pro M do exactly that. First off, they’re spiked golf shoes. The Proflex spikes provide a ton of traction in any course conditions. They also feel extremely stable. I never felt my foot over-flexing, my ankle rolling, or any of those other concerns that I’ve had previously with other shoes. I always felt planted, and more importantly, in control of what my feet were doing.

In addition to the stability, the Gel-Ace Pro M also feature a waterproof upper. No need to worry about those wet, dewy morning rounds here. If you decide to brave a rain storm, I have a feeling they’ll hold up just the same. We don’t have much rain here in Arizona right now to test with, so I enlisted the help of my newest uncle (I just got married), Uncle Tom, out in Chicago. He said the waterproofing was “perfect” on a rainy summer afternoon in Chicago. They do get a little warm, but that is to be expected from a full leather upper. He also loved how comfortable they were, and how quickly they broke in (a few holes into the round).

Final Thoughts – ASICS Gel-Ace Pro M

Fans were waiting for Hideki’s signature shoe and I think ASICS hit a home run here. The Srixon ASICS Gel-Ace Pro M blend tradition and technology to create a great looking, high-performing, and even more comfortable golf shoe. If you’re looking for a new pair of golf kicks this summer, make sure you give the ASICS Gel-Ace Pro M a look.
